Wowsers! Apparently Montreal is really close to a signature with Michael Ballack! Soccer insider reported about 1 month in advance that we were in negotiations with Felipe Martins, so they're legit.

Woland, figuring since you are part of the UM02, are you going on tour to New York on march 31?

Just trying to find out if I'm alone from hfboards going, lol.

Knowing that the 4th page is coming to an end, I figured we should treat ourselves with Cissé's second leg break.

I felt sick after seeing the first picture but now I can't stop laughing for some reason.

I'm "going". Waiting to know if there's a second bus or people not paying.

Pretty cool then. I said I was going but technically I'm waiting after the second bus as well. It looks like there will be one from the facebook Ultras webpage.

Doesn't the Impact already have like 10 000 Midfeilders? Not saying adding Ballack could be a problem.. Just supposing they had other needs for a DP

Out with Halak, in with Ballack

He's been one of my absolute favourite midfielders I first saw him with Munich. Man, I miss following soccer

Are the Impact gonna play on turf? If so, that might be a concern for some of the older guys, especially a bigger guy like Toni. Its been a problem for a few others in the league (like Henry), those same players also tend to avoid cross country trips to places like LA (twice), SJ, and all 3 PNW teams play on turf so its like double trouble.

I read Saputo say something about "Smelling Fresh Grass waking up int he morning and walking in the olympic stadium" or something like that... And Saputo stadium had Grass last year, so I'm sure it will remain Grass everywhere. I only watched 2 Impact games on TV, maybe someone can specify

Pretty sure I read we were going to play on grass this year. At least, in the saputo stadium.

Edit: Thanks for the sticky! Finally!

Celebrating the sticky!

@KingLB, Olympic Stadium has turf, but I think Saputo will have grass at inauguration.

Ballack would be a good signature. If they get ballack a del piero they could do damage.

Having Michael Bollocks would be great from a marketing standpoint but he ain't the kind of guy you want as a teammate. Ask anyone from the mannschaft. He is a legend though. Would be pretty funny seeing him with the fleur de lys on his jersey.

On topic of the Bosman players, Junior Hoilett is free this summer. Obviously he is still a very big name and very young, but how crazy would that be if Saputo could snatch him up. He is canadian after all... Keep dreaming

I have a feeling the Impact's beginning in the MLS will help with the disappoitment of the Habs not making the playoffs.

I think the Impact in MLS will attract ton of new adepts.. Personally I had very little interest before but now they joined the MLS I expect to go to the games 3-4 times per season..

Same for me, I didnt really pay attention to the Impact before, except for playoff time. I really like the sport (and Im playing too) and I will follow the team this year for sure!

This thread is a good thing too, some of you guys are helpful!

Don't want to be pessimistic but I think we're gonna be disappointed on so many levels.

While media are throwing rumors left and right, Saputo is not sure that bringing a DP would be a good idea for the 1st year.

We would have absolutely no chance competing with the team we have right now without at least one DP. Maybe Saputo is thinking that since it's the 1st year in MLS Saputo stadium will be filled anyway. In this case, it would say a lot of his intentions to build a competitive team.

As much as I want to have a stack of amazing players on the team, I agree with Saputo if he says no DPs for now. I think it's important for this team of mercenaries to understand each other first, create friendships, chemistry and also get these guys used to the great city. A DP is a complicated addition and I'd rather they wait until the 1st season is over.

And yes I expect suckage in the first year, but oh well. It's expansion.

I dunno. Maybe we should cash in the fact that players don't know each other anyway and bring an old leader that would really tie the team together. A Torsten Frings by example.
