Lundin made a ton of mistakes when in played. He wasn't playing better than Schultz by a long shot. Hell, I've been ripping into Zidlicky all year, but I think there is an argument that Zidlicky has been better than Lundin.
But yes, Stoner and Zanon need to get sat badly. Stoner is a #7 guy who can get slotted in for injuries and to add toughness. Zanon is just bad, bad, bad.
Something I recently thought of was Clayton Stoner last season. He had a been injured at the end of the year/off-season. Then had a terrible pre-season and looked bad pretty much whenever he played. However after being repeatedly scratched he finally got another chance I want to say due to injury and played awesome. His game did a full 180.
I'm hoping this is the case for Lundin. The guy sat all pre-season and a large chunk of the beginning of the year because of an injury. Then when he finally played he looked bad, but now after being scratched a bunch and getting a lot of practice and skating in I think he comes back in a lot better form than what we saw earlier. Maybe it's just me but I think that injury never allowed him to get to his highest level of play, but now that he has been skating and working out with the team he comes back at 100%.
Who cares what the locker room is like right now? If it destroys the room, great. Whatever is in the room right now is not working.
You put your best players on the ice, every game. That's how you win games. If you put your best players on the ice and you aren't winning games, you need better players. Period.
I agree and disagree. Yes you should ice your best team at all times, but is Schultz our worst defensmen? Obviously he is not playing up to his salary, but is he better than Stoner, Zanon, Falk? I believe so.
Also the locker room is extremely important. No right now we aren't winning, but we have had success this year with this group. A lot of success in fact. As of now we are at an absolute low point and yes we do need a shake-up. Do I think we should trade one of our captains and longest tenured player? No. I think that's a knee-jerk reaction. Obviously Schultz has had a bad year, but other than Spurgeon who has a good year from our D? No one that I can think of. I mean Zidlicky is starting to turn it around and hopefully Lundin can come in and play solid as well and then Schultz, Zanon, and others pick up their game too.
One thing I would like to see is Schultz paired with Spurgeon. I think Spurgeon's game would be a nice compliment to Schultz. Clearly he hasn't meshed with Zidlicky or Lundin so far so why not try changing it up and see if it sparks his game.
With a #FreeLundin campaign started on Twitter by fans baffled that Mike Lundin has been scratched in nine of the past 10 games, a game like Thursday could get Lundin unchained Saturday in St. Louis. That's, of course, if Marco Scandella or Nate Prosser aren't recalled first to aid the Wild's suddenly unreliable blue line.
