This past season, Switzerland witnessed a start-to-finish victory by the powerhouse ZSC Lions Zürich with most of the nation’s experts agreeing that the team, coached by former NHL head coach Marc Crawford, will most likely be able to repeat it’s championship run in 2014-15.

Zürich’s success is due to a deep lineup made possible by that organization’s youth movement, which is systematically developing young players in the National League B. So it is no surprise that the three top Swiss draft-eligible players for the 2015 NHL Draft, forward Denis Malgin and defensemen Roger Karrer and Jonas Siegenthaler, have developed their game in the ZSC Lions organization.… read more

Thank you, very interesting read

I'm actually not to happy that as many young talents chose to go back to Switzerland this early, if they want to play in the NHL at some day the route via the junior leagues or AHL is more promising.
It takes very much for a player in the Swiss league to get noticed in the NHL, only players that have done it so far are Diaz, Brunner, Berra, Gerber and Streit.

Your forgot Hiller and Josi, which makes it a way better bunch than those who went the junior/AHL route (Aebischer, Weber, Sbisa, Niederreiter).

We'll see how Andrighetto, Bärtschi or Müller develop compared to Fiala and the next fully European trained players who get NHL contracts, but so far the trend for Swiss players is similar to other countries, home grown players are more succesfull than those who go through the AHL route.
