Plan B

I'm just like everyone else holding out hope for Parise and Suter, but I understand nothing is certain there. Even just getting one is huge. My fear is that if we miss out, we will feel the need to still spend money and overpaying severely due to the market. There is a couple guys like Ryan Smyth who could help, but I think its clear we would be better served by biting the bullet, seeing what we have in some of our young guys, and make a run at some top tier guys in 2013.

Yeah, there's no need for anybody to hit a panic button even if we don't land Parise or Suter (I've really lost hope of landing either personally). I think this is a year for our young guys to make a splash even at the risk of missing the playoffs next year, and see who's available next July.

I would much rather see expanded roles and continued development of Hudler, Nyquist, Tatar, Smith, Kindl etc than see one and half all-starish players plugged in with hopes for the best.

Why? All indications point to Suter wanting to play in the midwest, not Pittsburgh like you believe.

Ryan Suter bought a fully loaded Cadillac Escalade ESV from Gooley Cadillac in St. Clair Shores a few weeks ago...does that ease your concern lol? It is highly like we land Suter, at the very least.

Some problem with the OP, even if we were forced into the youth movement we actually have to spend some money and not just do cheap prospects to get to the cap floor.

Really!?

Saweet!

I definitely will no loose hope if we don't land 2 of the top free agents (Parise, Suter, Semin). However, I will be LIVID, if we do not get at least one of them. We have been playing under the cap for a while now ON PURPOSE to prepare us for an off-season like this. Kenny and the crew can not afford to blow this.

Yes - my Dad is an executive at GM and one of his associates told me last week. He said he hasn't taken delivery yet but he already paid for it

If we get Suter the season's arrival becomes much, much more exciting.

Can he get a Cadillac anywhere else? Seems like a convenient place to buy more than anything else. I doubt he would be making plans on where he is going without looking at an offer first.

Well Cadillac of Novi is the largest Cadillac dealer in the world, so it definitely is a little strange as to why if he was particular about buying a Caddy in Motor City, that he wouldn't choose to go Novi. That said, it is encouraging either way that he at least isn't scared to pick up a car from Detroit...

Pessimism. I don't know why, just a feeling. Don't want to get my hopes up.

Like everyone I hope he is coming, really starting to get my hopes probably a little too high over the last couple days. But at the very least it is good to know he drives American always like to hear that, was super bummed when Lidstrom was cruising around in the Beamer during his Versus segment earlier this year.

Ricelund, that should be your nickname for the month of July if you are indeed correct.

Yea that irked me a little bit as well. About Suter though, all signs are pointing to him coming to Detroit. To me, a really underrated attraction that a lot of people aren't talking about is how well he fits into the atmosphere in our room. He seems to be so low-key and low-maintenance.

He is the type of PERSON (not only player) that Kenny drools over.

Everyone drools over that, guess the Chelios connection is big too, if he already has made up his mind.

No, we'll call him something nicer.

Ricelund becomes his permanent user name if he's wrong.

He bought a car already to be imported to the airport, so he can look the hoods by himself after he arrives at july 1st.

***

My plan A is Suter and Semin (+ Brunner + SH defenceman + physical player like Prust + back-up goalie).

Parise can took his big payday from Minnesota (9 million salary).
