The NHL game is too fast for him. Just watch him and you can see that he struggles with the speed. He can't execute even simple plays. A real shame since he has the physical ability to be an effective player.

Total bust.

I agree. I don't think he has the mental toughness or knowledge that if he just uses his speed, size, and good positioning, he could be a great 3/4th liner.

Or he just doesn't think the game fast enough.

yeah it's pretty funny. If a player isn't good by 22 he'll never be good.

Just gotta hope Almond and McMillan aren't on the same path of mediocrity that Gillies was on. It's the sad life of the Minnesota Wild prospect.

i was worried about that too...especially in the case of Almond. For whatever reason i've always had McMillan penciled in as an AHL guy but had a little bit of hope for Almond being useful in the NHL.

I don't think anyone will because of the 1-way contract for next season, but we'll see. Yes he's cheap but he also sucks and needs confidence, getting claimed to play with another team in the NHL is unlikely to spark him. Its unfortunate he played in this league as a 19 year old or he wouldn't be on his 2nd contract or subject to waivers at this point, but can't change the past. Who knows if that career path would have given him the confidence to become an NHL player.

McMillan's never going to be more than a 4th liner in the NHL, if that. Has the ideal tools though, somewhat willing fighter, drives the net, finishes checks, great positioning, good stick, decent skater, plays a simple game, never trying to do too much. Almond, aside from last post-season he's been a far more productive for the Aeros than Gillies, and (IMO)outplayed Gillies/Peters when up with the Wild this season. But he hasn't lasted with the Wild for whatever reason(face-offs being my guess).

But in the end, it shouldn't matter with the prospects potentially joining the NA pro ranks next season. Almond and McMillan could very well find themselves lost in the depth that Larsson, Coyle, Phillips, Zucker, and of course Granlund bring.

Good call by Fletch... glad to see he doesn't hang onto someone just to hand onto someone due to fear of waivers.

Fletcher would not have held on to Matt Foy for a couple extra years just because "We don't want to lose him in waivers"... only to figure out he's not an NHL player later and let him walk via free agency anyway.

Hope Gillies can turn around his career.

I thought McMillan looked similar to a Brodziak or JOhnson player in his short stint last year. He was always noticeable when I watched the Aeros last year. I sent Russo a tweet asking about him since he hasn't been called up this year while several others have...

So who becomes the extra forward now? Kassian maybe or I could see Peters stick on permanently. I would love to see MacIntyre or Palmer get a chance, but I think in terms of development playing 4th line minutes wouldn't help those guys. They'd be better off playing big minutes in Houston.

Palmer still is with the team. He's on the IR list. (concussion)

I think Peters will now be the extra forward.

That's what I was thinking. His draw ability, pk skills, and the fact that he is familiar with Yeo and has his trust make it hard for me to think anyone else would be chosen. Aside from Kassian purely from a toughness standpoint. I think Staubitz is going to be the next to go. He has been so bad he's only playing 5 min a game. I'd rather have Kassian if that's all we are getting from him.

Hahaha, there was enough demand for Gillies that he went to the worst team in the NHL?

Good luck kid. You're gonna need it.

I'm not surprised but I am a little sad. Oh well, it's up to Tyler Cuma to prove DR wrong!

Well that's one less contract to worry about for next year. Unless CBJ decides to waive him when they find out he sucks and we claim him back.

If this guy already lost his confidence now, wow just being on the Blue Jackets is going to destroy his mental state for the rest of his hockey career. Hopefully they assign him to their AHL affiliate.

Well another First Round Bust *TM*

Side note: It was awesome of CF to waive him and Yeo to talk him up. His career was going nowhere and obviously Gillies probably would've went nowhere here.

Now he's got the opportunity to do it elsewhere.

Wow....that has got to suck... gone from a team that spent significant time as the #1 team in the NHL this season, to the team that is without a doubt the worst team in the NHL, quite possibly the worst of all time.

At least he should be familiar with Todd Richards. But damn. He is going to be a shell of himself.

Poor guy

Oh no, nothing can beat the first or second year expansion Senators. They had 9 or 10 wins all year long.

Most losses one season:
71-San Jose Sharks, 1992-93
70-Ottawa Senators, 1992-93

Those two are the two worst teams ever conceived in the NHL, min. 70 game record.
