probably going to be 4 over 4. He's not worth that much right now but here's to hoping he'll be worth more than 4 during the last 2-3 years of his contract.

This can't be serious.

3.5-4 per, probably 3-4 years. Works well for both sides.

Subban had a terrible year.. id sign him a 1 year contract , 2.5 M , Restricted Free Agent after 2012-2013.. then see what happens.. so its safe both ways: you dont end up with an ''Alexandre Daigle'' type of guy and if he does well, and you probably won't lose him.

I know exactly what he is and he has a ton of leverage, its going to be funny when he gets about a million more than he should right now because of Gauthier.

That's my point. If the optics are that he's having a "terrible" season then lets lock him up at the lower salary as long as possible. In a year when the Habs players are under-performing, the silver lining is that they should be cheaper to re-sign.

This would all make sense if he didn't lead the team in ice time and points.

Say what you want, 95% of the team took a step back.

I don't necessarily disagree with the strategy but PK Subban is the complete opposite of Alexandre Daigle. It's pretty clear that Subban just loves playing hockey, while Daigle had all the talent in the world but didn't give a crap about hockey.

^ This. I also think it's poor planning of the Habs front office to think that D could hold it together all year, even with Markov. A lot of people are saying Subban has regressed but I just think he's getting exposed more than last year. Last year's Habs D leaders for toughest minutes (Corsi relative QoC):

Hamrlik
Gill
Gorges (1/2 season)
Spacek
Wisniewski
Subban
...

This year:

Gorges
Subban
Diaz
Yemelin
Gill
...

Hamrlik (and to a much lesser extent Spacek and Wiz) are gone, and Gill can no longer be trusted at even strength -- notice how he's getting easier ES minutes than rookies Diaz and Yemelin. So of course you need guys to step up and eat the big minutes. Subban hasn't been stellar and his subpar positioning has been getting exposed (or rather he hasn't been able to compensate that with his strong skating), but that's mostly because of the better opposition he has faced. The guys further down that list can't help either -- Kaberle and Campoli are worse defensively than Subban.

True but on the other hand he grew up a Habs fan and wants to play here and win here. That does help at least to some extent. He's RFA after all.

His agent isn't an idiot, but Subban may accept if it's like 4 year x 4 million. They know this "terrible" season for a young promising player is borderline meaningless. Without him we'd be fighting Columbus for last place right now, nuff said really.

You can't give NTC during RFA years.

I would like him to sign 3 years / 3,5 per yers.

He's RFA so the habs can't really lose him right now. It's hard to steal an RFA to another team, ask the edmonton oilers about penner. The others teams will have to put big money witch would mean a lot of 1st DP. I'd say 3,5 M for 3-4 years will be the contract.

Year 1: $3.5M
Year 2: $4M
Year 3: $4M

Cap hit: $3.833M (same as what Spacegoat had)
