It will be much less than Josh Gorges new contract (3.9M/year). Considering PK is a RFA and behind Gorges in performance this year i would expect 3.5/year or less on a 3 or 4 year contract. Maybe 3M / year for 2 years.

This is kind of nitpicking, but I don't see "3.5m/year" as being "much less" than "3.9m/year".

That said, I don't see anything horribly inaccurate here.

Not really nitpicking. You can't pay PK more than Josh Gorges unless its for a term that's longer than Gorges' contract (and i doubt PK would sign that). That's just the reality of PK's contract situation.

The Gorges signing was a good one for PG and the Habs. It set the ceiling for PK Subban.

Hedman got $4M per season and Goligoski, $4.6M; would these two players be good indicators as to how much Subban will cost?

With the cap, almost of players are signing their big deals right after their ELC, MTL is one a few teams that believes in the short 2nd contact, Price got 2 years, Patches got 2 years, etc, look for Subban get 2-3 year deal at 3M-3.5M.

How about Gionta?

Gionta at 5M is just fine.

If you include playoffs, he scored 37 goals in 80 games in 09-10, and last season he scored 32 goals in 89 games. This year has been hurt pretty much all year.

Yes. And Myers got $5.5M. These people are being unrealistic. It will be around $4.5-5M per.

To be fair, Price was signed after what was probably his worst season.

But... actually, I expect something similar with Subban. Or a slightly more expansive, longer deal, which I totally agree that wouldn't be in Subban's best monetary interests.

Well I think it goes for everyone, after A.Kost had his breakout year, MTL only gave him a 3 year deal. This summer Patches said he would like to sign a long term deal but Habs only gave him a 2 year deal. In almost every case MTL really likes the 2nd short contact, before offering someone a long term deal.

If the Habs were to eat into Subban's UFA years then OK, we could expect something in that ballpark, but, as so many said, the Habs are firm believers in the short 2nd contract (even if they can and do pay them just a little below UFA value) unless Gauthier was canned before Subban was re-signed and that Gauthier's replacement wanted to lock up Subban long-term.

Me and a friend were comparing him and J. Johnson (LA-D) yesterday and both have similar all around stats (and yes I SPECIFY all around stats), could he get a contract simillar to Johnson in term of money and years...? (4.350M/7yrs)

You can't compare Jack Johnson and PK Subban.

I expect either a $4 million, 2 year deal or a $5 million, 6 year deal.

Johnson's sub $5 million contract for 7 years is decent for what he brings.

Subban knows his role and he'll demand a lot.

They are two different players.

But others teams will probably BE WILLING to put HUGE money for him. They know him and Price are the only two untouchables in Montréal...more so with Markov not nearly being a healthy player.

Big player for Montreal and provides a real physical dimension to the team. I'd reckon they'd value him at around $2.5m. They'll probably offer $10m for 4 years I reckon.

He'll get more than that. Subban is worth more than that too.

For a short-term deal of 1-2 years, I'd be happiest with something like a $3.5M cap hit. But realistically, he's already the #1 defenseman on the team, and would be within his rights to try for significantly more. I'm hoping he/his agent doesn't really push that hard this time around, but that's probably a naive hope. Anything under $5M per would satisfy me.

Contracts like Myers, Goligoski, and Hedman got are worth considering when looking at a longer term. I think you're definitely heading to $4-5.5M territory if you're getting into UFA years. And that's ok with me too.

I doubt we'll see him locked up with a super-long-term contract of more than 5 years, but if they did, anything in the ballpark of $5M per would be fine with me.

I think he'll get something like Claude Giroux's second contract, which was $3.8 mil for 3 years. With inflation, P.K. will probably get something like 3 yrs, $4.2mil/year.

That's what I think too. It's good money, but not All Star Defenseman - Money, because he hasn't proven he can be dominant on both ends of the ice day in and day out, but if in these three years he continues to develop even more, he's gooing to be one rich guy...
