I love it that it's at a 115,000 seating staduim... that is fantastic!!!

Shocked they took this with a Canadian team since the Winter Classic is an American event. It almost feels like a college bowl game with all the pomp and circumstance around it.

Wings and leafs needs to play atleast twice next season, one in mid december and the other one the winter classic game, gotta build up some hatred

We can expect the HBO series too right?

I had read something on Puck Daddy that 24/7 may be in jeopardy, but who knows. In any event, the NHL has my viewership for next season:

1) Canadian team getting involved? (check)

2) Game being held at legendary venue? (check)

3) Two completely new or fairly new teams to the game? (check; Detroit hasn't been in since 2009)

4) A matchup with an actual rivalry (I'm looking at you, Pittsburgh/Washington!) (check)

Posted this in the Maple Leafs team forum, but I would think the 1954-55 versions for both teams (updated to Reebok Edge jerseys).

I think we can definitely expect a new Leafs jersey seeing as the 67 throwback is the current third which has been selling out everywhere. MLSE won't pass up the chance to market another jersey. Maybe an early 90s throwback.

Quite excited for this. Will definitely be the Winter Classic with the most 'franchise appeal'.

This game is going to be great. The rivalry from the 50's lives on today more in the crowd than on the ice, but without a doubt the two team will know of the history between the two clubs and it should be a battle. I hope both clubs get a couple marquee signings/acquisitions in the offseason to make 24/7 a little better as well.

Jerseys should be classic blue from '54 and classic white from '54 for the Wings. I'm stoked. Hope it is at CoPa downtown though.

First cross-conference Winter Classic. Will be interesting to see how that goes.

I think that this could potentially be the biggest WC financially. Biggest stadium. Biggest hockey team. Everyone hates the Leafs and loves the Wings. 60 year old rivalry.

Awesome. Toronto-Detroit is a huge underrated rivalry with huge fanbases... Should be awesome. Now that we know Canadian teams can be involved, I'd love to see a Boston-Montreal in the future.

NHL made a smart move, they're going to be rolling in cash after this one. I expect the stadium to be sold out. Not a very long way to Detroit from Toronto, and Toronto fans would probably go to the end of the Earth to see the Leafs outside. Jerseys will be constantly sold out, if they continue 24/7 the ratings will be insane, etc.
