Yea, because playing in a defensive system sure screwed the development of guys like Parise and Zajac.

Let Hall/Eberle/RNH and Yakupov play sound two way hockey and win games I say.

I agree. RNH is a product of Brett Sutterite defensive hockey so....

The whole defensive system screws up the development of prospects was some half-baked theory justify how MacT was doing a poor job with prospects. I think it's apparent now, the picks were just bad..

Definitely a new GM. Tambo's had his time, and he's showed us nothing besides his addiction to the lottery. We need a trigger-happy GM.

Anyone wants to bet that if we win tonight, they will announce Tambellini's contract extension tonight or tomorrow morning?

4 straight good performances and results, good PR timing to announce?

We could keep Tambellini one more year if you have MacKinnon or Barkov in mind. Tambo is pretty good in doing nothing. I just wouldn't allow him to sign players for more than 1 year.
But perhaps it is a bit unrealistic to be #30 4 years in a row. So it could be the better way to forget about MacKinnon/Barkov and sign a good GM in the off season.
I like the first part of your post. I dont get a good feeling from Renney, very soon Tambo is going to have to earn his money, starting Feb 26th??? (trade deadline) and this summer, up until now a monkey could have got us here!

Tambellini will be re-signed with probably 95% probability. He's doing exactly what the Lowe-Tambo-Katz triumvirate has had planned for this rebuild process. He'll likely get at least a 2 year extension.

Renney I'm not as sure about. They may feel they want a slightly more aggressive, "take charge" type of coach for the second stage of this rebuild. I'd say he has about a 60% chance of being renewed... but I wouldn't be that surprised if they go in another direction either.

From the way Tambellini and Renney acted and reacted to media since the trade deadline, it feels like Tambellini knew he has a contract extension in place but Renney doesn't.

Especially the way Renney handled the Omark question in the interview, he sounded frustrated with the media. He's normally very patience and articulate with explaining and responding to the media when he has confidence.

He seems to not have that same confidence knowing he'll be in charge of the ship and started to get a bit defensive.

Did you get that feeling too? And what head coaching candidates are available out there for us if we get a one for next season?

^^ Would you mind summing up how he responded to the Omark question? I missed it and would appreciate it if you could.

I think it was the day in between the SJ & MTL games, where Mark Spector asked Renney during a media scrum about playing Omark very little and being on the 4th line, and how he planned to use him going forward with Omark being more of an offensive top 6 skill guy. Nothing wrong with the question or how it's being asked imo.

Sorry, i couldn't find the link in Oiler.com, they probably didn't post or edited it. May be other posters who saw the interview on Sportsnet can add to it.

Renney basically tore a strip off Spector about even asking a question like that. He fired back at Spector why Omark can't be a top 9 guy, why Omark has to be top 6, why Spector thinks Omark playing with Belanger etc is consider not using Omark properly, didn't want Omark first game up having to play too much against a big heavy SJ team, Omark also need to earn his ice time, and i am the coach and have the right to choose what to do instead of having to worry about the media opinions....

I actually don't mind Renney at all and think he is a good teacher for a young rebuilding team. It was just very unlike him when he got defensive and gave it to Spector like that, to a point that you feel it hit a nerve and he's overreacting. And I wonder if it was due to that he doesn't know if he will have a job next year.

Yep and Spec mentioned this as well as he was the one interviewing.

Spec also said hes talked to people around the league about this situation, and it usually never ends well for the coach. Its also very weird for the coach.

The thing about offensively stifling systems.

Did anyone think the Kings would be 29th in league scoring after adding Carter and Richards from Philly? With a full season of Penner

The Oilers are just trolling the fanbase. They'll give both of them extensions right before the draft.

Unfortunately this has been Tambellini's ship for the entire rebuild. He hasn't really done anything that has tied the hands of the Oilers organization like the tear that Lowe went on prior to Tambellini's signing. And he has also made a fool of a so-called great GM in Dean Lombardi on several occasions. I'd sign him to a 1 (or dare I say 2) year deal and see where he brings this team as the rebuild is completed.

As for the coach, I'd let this season wrap up, see how OKC fares in the playoffs and bring up Coach Nelson to lead this young team moving forward.
