I think viper pretty much summed this up. Teams dont make good trade partners due to contracts. That said, Stephens is as reliable as it gets with Anaheim.

Yeah. Suter isn't going to boost Anaheim enough to make the POs and if he walks they gave up assets for no reason. If Murray wants him he's best to make a stab at his rights during the draft or offering him a great deal on July 1st.

Unless the Ducks revert back to their losing ways (4-0-1 in our last 5 games), RPG, Fowler, Hiller, Sbisa are untouchable. Also, the Ducks wouldn't be able to afford Suter. My guess is that Suter resigns or signs with Toronto or LA.

Why in the world would he go to Toronto? I got a feeling he is waiting to see if Lindstrom retires.

Yeah, I agree. I can see only three real teams that could sway him the most: Detroit, Minnesota and Philly.

Obviously Nashville too, if Poile makes a point of getting more offense for a serious run.

While from a fan perspective you'd think Bobby Ryan has more value, I really wouldn't be surprised if many GM's would rather have Colin Wilson.

No you wouldn't not with Anaheims surplus of young PMD's. Wilson makes the most sense, Suter makes none unless he'd sign long term

Ryan's 3 x 30G seasons say otherwise.

If Murray could get Suter to sign a deal of 10 yrs 55-60M I would take a deal of

Suter...top d-man for years to come
Klein...underrated solid veteran right shot d-man
Wilson...young power forward with skill

for

Ryan...80 pts a year power fwd...but his future cap hit will be higher than Suter
Palmeri...offensive potential especially in a system like Nashville...ie Kostitsyn
Sbisa...young d-man

Don't think Nashville will think this is even close.

I could definitely see a deal involving Ryan and Suter as the main pieces.

Nashville needs a solid veteran defender and a young power forward with skill more then anything right now. Sbisa is redundant with Josi, Ellis, Blum, Ekholm, etc.

Suter for Ryan is basically even, but I don't think you realize how good Wilson has been this year, he's easily been our most consistent forward.

Bob Murray said he wants to trade core players for core players not draft picks and prospects

I'll just wait and see. I could see us moving Suter though for some more offensive firepower to help convince Weber to stay. We'll see.

The potential and professional NHL scouting. A balance between Ryan plateauing and Wilson still with some unrealized potential evolving into the more valuable player, offensive winger vs complete center. I personally can't tell the difference, but it's the job of an NHL scout and GM to do so.

If I can cherry pick an example, go back to 06-07 and ask if you'd swap M.Havlat for M.Koivu. Havlat broke into the NHL with a few seasons under his belt as a a star PPG potential winger, while Koivu 2 years younger took longer to develop that complete game and wasn't quite as impressive yet.

I could be completely wrong, maybe Ryan has another level he can reach and Wilson will never be more than a 2nd line center. I'm just saying that I wouldn't be surprised if some NHL GM's may project Wilson to be that complete first line center very soon, looking beyond what a fan will see who's caught up on Ryan's three 30 goal seasons while Wilson has nothing to show for.

At first I hated that Havlat-Koivu comparison, but after closer look I understand. Didn't realize Havlat was only 30. THought he was way older.

So good point.

Question for Preds fans:

Where does Colin Wilson stand right now. I know obviously he's not some piece that you're just going to give away, but is the guy being groomed to be the Predators' first line center, and therefor a player the Predators probably want to keep in the fold, or is he an expendable trading chip, albeit a valuable one?

Hes our most valuable and offensively gifted young forward we have other than maybe Smith. He has been our most consistent forward all year. We arent going to be trading him unless the other team is overpaying. We need a scorer to play with him.
