This is the part that frustrates me the most. They were granted the territory rights ONLY for trying to get a ballpark down there.
Once that didn't happen the territory rights should not have remained with them. It's also a huge slap in the face to the A's franchise, that back when the Giants were inches away from Florida the A's did all they could to help that team stay in the bay, but now the Giants are being turd nuggets when the A's are in the exact same situation.
This whole thing is ridiculous. The A's moving to a different market would NOT be in the best interest of baseball.
What will be interesting is what sort of effect this news could have on the constitution, since that's what really matters. Whether it got there on false pretenses, Santa Clara County belonging to the Giants is in the MLB constitution, and theoretically it can only be removed from the constitution with a 2/3 majority vote.
Even if this proof is real (not saying it isn't), the owners are still amending the territorial rights portion of the constitution, something that could possibly happen to another team somewhere in the future and maybe setting a new precedent for how to deal with it.
Its probably just gonna turn into silly politics, which will more than likely be embarrassing, but interesting to see how it gets dealt with.

RFA tender on the way for Grant. Hope they go with the 1.92M tender - i think there are teams that would give up a 2nd for him, which of course could ease the pain of giving up at 1st for Mike Wallace (thou, i doubt that fantasy comes to fruition).

The part I think is a bunch of hogwash is that it would set a precedent for new teams moving into an existing team's territory.
This situation is so unique, because not too long ago the teams shared the rights. It's not like some team from across the country is trying to move into already established territory.
This whole situation is just such a joke to me. It's possible the Giants wouldn't even be here if the A's didn't help them out in their search to find a stadium. They delayed the move to FL by offering the rights to SC for the purpose of moving a stadium there. Mow the Giants are essentially telling the A's to go **** themselves.
Trust me, I get that it's business. I get that every team is competing against each other to win every year. However the MLB is supposed to be a fraternity that takes care of its own, and is doing anything but that right now.

Well, if the meeting minutes are true like previously posted, wouldn't they be able to amend the rights back to Oakland since it was a contract?
right, way to set up the rams for the foreseeable future.
Exactly... Ram's with 5 first round picks in the next 3 drafts. And knowing the Redskins, they're still going to suck and their picks will be low for the Rams.
It's kind of hard to get excited for this College Basketball Tournament when the conference you follow sucks so much. What the heck was that California. Way to choke in the semifinal. Also, I haven't been following College Basketball at all this season so that's another reason why it's a little hard to get excited for the tournament.
At least we have St. Marys I guess who might be poised to make a run. Still, what a pitiful effort from Cal tonight.
maybe... perhaps...i mean... maybe, just give a phone call to peyton?
the fact the niners won't even entertain peyton as a possible is ridiculous.
i like what the redskins did though. takes balls. RG3 could be real good. or not.. ha
I don't get it either. I understand wanting to keep Smith as he earned another year to start but you almost have an obligation to pursue Manning.
I also like the Redskins moxie here. Their drafting isn't all that impressive and really neither is the Rams so giving up those picks for RG3 is a good gamble to take.
Rams received a pretty nice load for 2nd overall. Having more high draft picks is great, but they don't mean a thing if you draft flops. I'll be concerned about the Lambs the day they keep Sam Bradford from getting his ass kicked every game.
All you can hope for now is for the Rams to keep drafting like they have been the last few years. If the Rams suck and the Skins still suck with RG3...oh man, Niners could be in trouble

The precedent part is more that it now enters the realm of possibility for a team to have their territorial rights taken away from them by a vote. The whole aspect of territorial rights is still a pretty new one, nevertheless, it still exists. I'd be surprised if, somewhere down the line, this situation doesn't happen somewhere else and amend the constitution to allow the otherwise infringing relocation.
The Giants have the territorial rights to the biggest and theoretically the most lucrative city in the Bay Area. They make a ton of money here and stand at risk of losing it if their one and only market competitors set up shop in town. The Sharks have shown how this city treats its pro teams (the Earthquakes/Sabrecats/Stealth not considered professional by the societal landscape), and why wouldn't the A's want in/Giants not want to let them?
Lastly, and this may be a little homerism, but I don't think the Giants owe the A's anything, at least nothing owed to Lew Wolff. Wolff has attempted several blows at the Giants, like one company does to another that it is in competition with, and his attempted move to San Jose is purely money driven. I can understand the Giants realistically being seen as villains if they were to not allow a team with no negative history to move in next door, but I just can't see how they can seriously be vilified for not helping out an organization that they're directly in competition with. Their decision to not allow the A's to come to San Jose is just as cash-conscious as the Athletics decision to come to San Jose in the first place.
Likewise, the Giants aren't owed the ability the leverage to financially bleed the A's and eventually own the market. They are not independent business, but franchises granted the right to operate within the business of MLB. Baseball should be allowed to ensure the future of both clubs and the Giants are fortunate to have Selig coddling them this much already.
Also, the precedent was set locally by the A's moving here in the first place. It was also set recently by the Nationals in Washington. There is no great dam bursting by allowing this particular move. That's just scare tactics.
Cespedes has made his debut today, got a walk in the first inning, didn't swing at one pitch. And now he just had his 2nd AB which resulted in an RBI single up the middle. Not a bad start at all.
