I don't think that negativity is warranted at this time of year as well however, I tend to be a bit of a realist and I'm having a hard time finding five teams in the league that should finish below us in the standings.

IMO the only way we finish higher is if we can stay out of the infirmary, then I think we'er sniffing the playoffs.

The Penguins got the best player in the world out of that deal and a guy in Malkin who isn't far behind. Pretty anomalous.

They didn't really, many teams had just as good of a shot to get Crosby as the Pens did. It wasn't your regular draft lottery for a team on the bottom. However it was nice that in one very long off-season your team picks up Malkin and Crosby.

Even if Edmonton did get dead last.

And even if Nail was still without a doubt the best player available Edmonton wouldn't pick him.

We're too loaded on the wings. We'd do something with that pick. We'd either take a package to move down and still draft a damn good d-man and it would be more than worth our while or we'd trade the pick for something uber.

Oilers would take Yakupov.

He may be better than Hall and likely better than RNH.

You do not pass on a player that good.

We would have four world class players in our top six, much like the 80s Oilers, and then you could always cycle in/out effective role players to play with them

ie:

Hall Lander Yakupov
MPS RNH Eberle

He's already shredding the OHL apart without Galenychuk (injured I think). 3 goals and 6 assists in 4 games, lol.

I was thinking finish third and win the lottery. I don't think the last place team is going to win the lottery this year anyway. The last place team is due to move down.

That's not really "shredding the OHL" when compared to other guys in the league.

Sean Monahan, who's eligible in 2013, has 12 points in 5 games, for example.

The gap between Yakupov and a handful of other 2012ers isn't near as large as some posters are letting on.

I dunno.

From the little I've seen, Nail Yakupov looks like Pavel Bure that hits.

Not to mention he plays a North American game. If he falls to 3rd, we've got ourselves one heck of a draft coming up.

If there's a player even better than Yakupov in this year's draft and the Oilers get that player ... I mean, lol, that's nothing but a good thing.

Yakupov is one hell of a friggin' player.

Griogrenko is also apparently doing well.

I think the Oilers would be fast tracked to winning a Cup with either one of those two. Those guys are really good.
