No desire to have Jackson here in Chicago especially his ego (He went on massive power trip that helped get him fired in Oakland)
Good point, and don't think for a second that Lovie doesn't have that same ego/power trip. He has been getting more power, especially with Angelo fired. No way those two could be on the same team, come to think of it. Another reason I'm a bit nervous about our GM hire. I don't want a Lovie Smith puppet for a GM.

The so called power of Lovie Smith is greatly exagerated
And Lovie keeps his ego in check ,, He doesn't tell ownership what they should do or tell media that he should have say in who is hired as GM like Jackson did
Matt Forte is threatening to holdout if he is franchised. This is no surprise to me - though I know a few here said it would never happen.
While it's certainly ideal that Forte gets signed longterm - I think he thinks he is worth more than he is. The guy isn't Barry Sanders or Emmit Smith. 13-14 mil guaranteed is a lot of money and I really don't know why he didn't accept that.
If Forte is demanding like a 20 mil signing bonus or guarantee - then I think the guy needs to take a hike. He's no Walter Payton. If he's going to be greedy - then trade him for a first round pick or a #1 receiver and go from there (I threw in a Lovie-ism there for good measure lol).
He will get his contract once we have a new GM. Or the new GM/Tice (if still here) want to trade him and eye a Free Agent to replace him
not good situation here
It's not going to be pretty, that's for sure. Forte's going to ask for Chris Johnson money, and while it's hard not to justify his value to the Bears with a big contract, $8million/yr is...a lot.
If Raye gets the GM job, do you think it's possible that he trades Forte for a Top15 Spot and brings Tolbert with him from SD.
Or go after Lynch, Grant or Bush. Not interested in Hills after all
Bell as #2
Is this possible?
Main choices are to either set a "good" precedent with the team and reward Forte with a long-term deal (the more likely option) or do a power move (not likely, based on the wimpy nature of GM the bears seem to want out of this) and deal off Forte/Briggs/whomever else in order to show they mean business.
I don't think players follow GM's around much in the NFL. If Raye got the job and he did pull that kind of show of force, it wouldn't have anything to do with guys he'd want to bring in from San Diego, it would be to show he's in charge and not to questioned.
That being said, I highly doubt any controversial moves will take place in 2012 no matter who the GM is.
with "bring Tolbert with him" I meant that he may be the guy that wanted him for SD and if he is our GM, I think he may value "his" guy + Top15 Pick over Forte who considers to hold out if we franchise him and then don't talk about a longterm deal
Trade a proven player for a player who may turn out to be a bust? Not sure I like that idea.
A proven player who is threatening to hold out unless you give him a boatload of cash at a position where players are notorious for breaking down. You can find running backs and teams win all the time with running back by committee. No team with a high money back (the type of money Forte wants) is left in the playoffs (Ravens are going to franchise Ray Rice).
IMO, Ross is the best guy that they're talking to.
And trade Forte, it's a clear as day. RBs can be replaced. 1st round picks don't grow on trees.
Ross or Raye would be fine with me. With an additional 1st round pick you could take a running back in the 2nd or 3rd round and probably find a starter. Its a passing league.
