We are now 1 point from being last in the East....

Also, only 4 teams in the entire league have allowed more goals than us.

And somehow OTTAWA has managed to build a 17 point lead. WTF?

Want to laugh/cry? Here are the offensive stats for some of our players over the last two months (When this season really went to hell):

Derek Roy: 9 points (3 G, 6 A)

Drew Stafford: 11 points (4 G, 7 A)

Ville Leino: 4 points (1 G, 3 A)

Nathan Gerbe (Who, mysteriously, never seems to get any flack): 4 points (1 G, 3 A)

Jochen Hecht: 6 points (2 G, 4 A)

Luke Adam: 4 points (2 G, 2 A, hasn't had a POINT in over a month)

Brad Boyes: 3 points (1 G, 2 A)

Just to make these stats that much more sad, here are the stats of our defenseman and bottom 6 players...

Patrick Kaleta: 3 points (1 G, 2 A)

Paul Gaustad: 4 points (3 G, 1 A)

Jordan Leopold: 7 points (2 G, 5 A)

Brayden McNabb: 5 points (1 G, 4 A)

Double post, but the current 8th seed (Washington) is on pace for 93 points.
We are currently at 43 points, so we'd need at least 50 points (73.5%) of the remaining 68 in the 34 games we have left.

Is it safe to call it yet?

This is our first five game regulation losing streak since the 2008-09 season (11/14, 11/15, 11/19, 11/21, 11/22).

We've had three other losing streaks of five or more games since then, but none were five straight in regulation.

Edit:
Quote:
BillHoppeSabres With only 115 goals in 48 games, the #Sabres on pace for only 196 goals. Franchise low is 190 in 02/03. Post-lockout low is 231. #Buffalo

We have to finish 21-8-5 to have a 50% chance of making the playoffs.

Road trip so far (5 games):

0 Wins, 5 Losses

7 Goals For, 23 Goals Against

Never more than 2 goals scored in a game.

Never less than 4 goals given up in a game.

Oh god, I'll be furious to see that and we would probably end up 9th... Just lose please and secure a top 3 pick.

Vanek has one goal in his last 12... He must be playing injured and he must be injured badly.

This has been stated over and over again but Buffalo's road losing streak has now been run to 12 games, all in regulation. The streak dates back to December 3rd and they are now 8-15 on the road for the season.

Beyond baffling: Marc-Andre Gragnani leads the team with a goals against per 60 minutes of ice time of 1.71. He also leads the team with a .939 team save percentage while he is on the ice. He also ranks second at 2.99 goals scored per 60 minutes while he's on the ice. I wish I had an explanation for this.

Mike Weber is worst on the team (among semi-regulars) at 3.65 goals against per 60 minutes of ice time.

The team has now lost five games in a row, eight of their last nine, 11 of their last 13, 14 of their last 17, and 16 of their last 20 games.

The Sabres have scored 13 goals in their last nine games (1.44 GPG). For the season, they have scored 115 goals in 48 games (2.40 GPG). They have scored 17 goals on their 12 game road losing streak (1.417 GPG) and they have scored 41 goals in 23 road games (1.78 GPG) on the year. They are the worst road offense in the league and 5th worst in the league overall.

Buffalo has now been outscored 23-7 through five games on this road trip so far.

To combat some arguments that Regehr is having a bad season: Regehr is second behind Gragnani on the team with a .930 save percentage while he's on the ice. The team also only allows 2.19 goals per 60 minutes of play with Regehr on the ice. +/- is a common argument against Regehr, we have covered this at length here previously, look at the league leaders in +/- and then determine your own assessment of whether +/- is a function of team success or individual success.

Buffalo is currently 2nd worst in the league with a -31 goal differential.

Cody McCormick does not have a single goal this season after scoring eight last season.

Former 40 goal scorer Brad Boyes has three goals in 35 games this season and only one goal in his last 26 games.

Buffalo is tied for 6th worst in the NHL in 5-on-5 play at 0.85 goals for to goals against ratio.

The Sabres are 9-19-5 since the Lucic incident.

According to Sports Club Stats, Buffalo currently has a 0.3% chance of making the playoffs after topping out at just over 80% before the Lucic incident.

Based on the averages, the team would need 50 points in the 34 remaining games in order to make the playoffs. That would likely mean 22-24 wins in the last 34 games.

Buffalo is currently tied for 4th worst in the league allowing 31.4 shots per game.

Thomas Vanek is goal-less in his last eight games and only has two points in his last 11 games as well as only two goals in his last 16 games.

Nathan Gerbe has one goal in his last 25 games.

Derek Roy has one goal in his last 12 games.

The Sabres are 4th worst in the league allowing 3.04 goals per game.

Buffalo only has two players on pace for 20 goals this season and only four players would eclipse the 40 point mark at this rate.
There are a ton of horrifying stats in there.....

It seems like playing Gragnani in goal is part of the problem.

Only Columbus has a worse Goal differential in the league right now...

1 of the highest paid goalies and 1 of the highest paid collection of wingers.

you're doing it wrong...

Now, come on. Even if Georges Vezina, Brett Hull, Bobby Hull, Kent Hull, Luc Robitaille and Dave Andreychuk were having career-worst years, their team would have a poor goal differential.

I'm sure you feel better now.

Can we still make Elite Defense jokes even though Quinn is gone?

Ryan Miller's last home regulation loss was November 2nd. And we're in the lottery.
