Your comparing Gardiner to RNH? Not even close.

Relax. He needs to work on a few things, like positioning. It's not like he's been traded for a bag of pucks. He'll be back, and will be better for it.

What are you talking about?

Aulie has played really well lately. In six games since the New Year, Aulie has been on the ice for only two goals against. and that's with almost every shift either facing the opposition's top line or doing PK duty. What more can we expect?

In his last 10 games, Gardiner was on the ice for 13 goals against. He has tons of speed and offensive potential, but he was starting to run all over the ice, getting caught out of position, and it was costing us. He's a 21 y/o rookie, right out of college, so that's to be expected.

Aulie may not look fancy, but he's almost always out there with Dion against the other team's best players, and he's been efficiently using his size to win puck battles, steer guys to the outside, and clear the area around our net. It's called playing defense!

Gardiner needed a break. Let him go down and work on the defensive aspect of his game under Eakins. He'll be a better player for it.

Why is Aulie up still? He provides NOTHING offensively, and for a guy touted as being a defensive beast, he is quite average. Gardiner brings 100x more offensively, and defensively they are not as far off as people think.

He looked tired and mishandled towards the end. Too much time on a struggling PK and Aulie/Komi have helped bring that part of our game up, so he lost his spot. He'll be back with more experience so I'm not too worried about it, but I'd prefer if him and Schenn were rotating in as the 6th d-man right now.

this can't hurt Jake in any way. If only we could send Komi down!

Probably the right move considering he was wasting time in the press box when he should be playing somewhere.

Certainly won't hurt him to play a key role down there. Marlies have used forwards on the point for the PP so Gardiner should help out there.

I'm interested to see if he can produce some larger offensive numbers down there.

Would you all rather him sit in the press box for a few more weeks? I don't see this as a bad thing. He'll be back.

Why are people crapping on Komi?

Ever since he came back Schenn hasn't played a single second on the pk. He has. And it's been perfect 11-11.

I know he had a bad line change yesterday and was -2 but why not have the same standards? He has played better than Gardiner therefore he plays over him.

It's probably for the best. He'll get some good experience as a #1 PP guy, and that will hopefully put him on a track to become a valuable PP guy with the big club in the future.

Another thing to consider is that the college hockey system plays ALOT less games than the NHL/AHL, so it's somewhat understandable that he's starting to run out of a fuel as the season progresses. The physical endurance requirement of the NHL is a tough adjustment for all players, even moreso the college players.

Folks, you are missing the big picture here. Jake will be back up some time this year, let him go down and work with Dallas and he will be better for it when he is back. I would be surprised if one of the D on this team was not traded with the exception of Dion before February is over.

*le sigh.

Yet Aulie remains with the team... We need Gardiner. I do not get this move in the slightest. We struggle to enter the offensive zone without him on the back end

There are a lot of people here who never played hockey and thus have no concept of the fitness level required.

They're just behind. He's definitely in Hamilton as we speak.

Every player the leafs have sent down has come back markedly better.

Frattin
Colborne
Kadri
Aulie
Boyce
Crabb
Bozak

on and on.

So instead of ripping on the organization for sending down a kid who's sitting in the press box, maybe take a minute to imagine a BETTER Jake Gardiner coming back, and how cool that will be.

Watching how well Franson's playing, it is obvious he's not coming out any time soon.

Its "playoffs or bust" for Leafs management this year, so they will play the vets and demote the kids.

Aulie is on borrowed time until Liles returns and Kadri in danger when Bozak and Armstrong return.

Guarantee, Him, Frattin, Colborne and possibly D'amigo will be valuable to our team next year just because of getting split spurs at the NHL level (exception of d'amigo) and going back to the AHL to fix their problems. Gardiner is going to pan out, we know that. But if you can get Colborne and Frattin to fix their mistakes with Gardiner...man, s'gon be a dope team next year boiz. Plus it'll be easier on Gardiner....as long as Liles comes back soon thats all i care about.
