To play with the Marlies until a trade is made. Marlies play today at 3pm and Gardiner hasn't played since Jan 5th, so they may want him to see some action before returning to the line-up if that rumour is true (I don't think it is)

Do it. The Marlies are a fantastic squad to watch live. At 23 bucks for a game day ticket 5 rows back from the Marlie (or opposition net) in the corner, its great.

Especially with all the kids they've got down there now.

He was great for a 10 game or so stretch where he was our leading ice time getter.. he slowly dropped off though, probably from playing so much.

Hopefully he's back up soon.

It's a little disingenuous to suggest Gardiner hasn't been struggling of late. He's hardly exempt from some time in the minors.

To suggest Aulie has been that much better... well, there I can relate a bit.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to Liles' return.

I'm sure they just want Jake to get some game action. Either Liles comes back soon, but more likely, we're trading a defenceman in the next 1-2 weeks. Jake will be back up soon

Better to play for the Marlies than be a healthy scratch for us. I would have liked him to keep playing up here though. I was always impressed by his game but I guess there's not much room, even with Liles injured, now that Komi's back and Franson is still playing solid hockey.

it looks like we're also letting komisarek play over gardiner even though all we see is bonehead play after bonehead play

why is it so wrong for him to play a game for the marlies and then get called back up?

Although, in terms of being a healthy scratch, I don't think he's warranted it.

Holy tin foil hats.

Bozak is back next game, this clears a spot for him. They're at home for four more games so there's no need to carry 7 D right now. He wasn't playing, needs to play and doesn't have to clear waivers.

There's nothing else to it.

It's not, but Gardiner's game did slow down a bit in the past few games.

With that being said, it was still 10x Aulie's game.

The Rangers had us running around like a fart caught in a glove. We really could have used more footspeed back there. I'd be happy to swap Gardiner for Aulie at this point.

Don't think Gardiner (or any single player) would have fixed any of our problems. It was a pathetic effort by the entire team.

This team stops playing when it starts getting hit.

Any little bit of extra speed helps, and Gardiner is a big step up in that regard.

Liles is the answer, but I'd give Gardiner a shot over Aulie or Komi at this point. Without either of them in, we're guaranteed to have at least one pairing that's super slow.

Bullcrap!

Aulie has been playing a terrific shutdown game over the last two weeks, constantly going out against the other team's top line and killing penalties. He's been on the ice for just two goals against over the last six games. He and Dion have a good chemistry together, going back to the way they played down the stretch last year.

Gardiner's defensive game fell apart in December. Over three games (Dec 16, 17, 19) he was out there for eight goals against, many of them were the direct result of his poor pinches and positional play. He was particularly brutal against Buffalo, allowing them right back into the game seconds after we scored by getting stripped of the puck from behind (Kassian), and then had a poor pinch which led to Vanek's game winning breakaway goal.

And it's not as if he's been lighting it up offensively, with zero goals and just 10 assists. Even Luke Schenn (13 points) is outproducing him, despite less TOI and no powerplay duties.

Gardiner has an outstanding skillset and he's going to be a pivotal part of this team going forward, but he's been struggling over the last month or so and needs some time with the Marlies to get his game together.

He's 21, right out of college, and we have a deep blueline. This will be good for him.

Dont really mind this move, gardiner had been struggling. But who comes out when Liles comes back? Aulie? Burke really needs to move out a defenseman

About time. His play has been in decline, and I'd like to see him rack up minutes in the A. He'll be able to develop at his own pace without the pressure of being on the big team.

I'd agree though, in that one game he had last year he looked pretty decent, as did Mueller in the few games he played. We need to give him a chance..
Holzer is absolutely NOT the guy, who would want money over playing time! Believe me.

Rarely are they outhit.

If I was playing a team on their second of a back to back and my team was rested then I'd hit them and give them little room to skate.

Makes his mark early. Scores his first pro goal.. not pretty, but he'll take it. Shot bounced in off a player.

EDIT: Looks like they said it bounced off Mueller. So Gardiner gets the assist.

He's been crap defensively; they should keep him down there for the rest of the year to work on his game. Hopefully next year he becomes an all around top level player.

No need to rush him, its not a big deal imo.
