I really liked arvedson. too bad.

It would be sweet if the canucks found a use for him in some capacity in management or coaching.

Saw this one coming. Doesn't really hurt in any way. Definitely not a good fit with Vancouver, didn't show up any time he was in the Playoffs in any stint he had with Ottawa. Didn't get a chance in Vancouver because of injuries.

Won't miss him.

Where abouts is Rucinsky playing right now? I assume he's playing in the Czech Elite League or something?

I won't miss him either, the Canucks need to get tougher and bigger on their third line, instead of Rucinsky, Arvedson and any other small finesse forward they don't know what to do with.

I, for one, will miss him.

Tougher and bigger? Cooke and Linden aren't enough? How about May? He had decent offensive numbers, was asked to play with the Sedins ( which I know didn't fit either side )

He was also a good penalty killer.

Cooke is a physical player, but he isn't big. Linden is decent sized, but his physical game is a few years behind him. Brad May is on our fourth line, and is half the player Trent Klatt is, I'm still scratching my head on that one. I'm not a big fan of Brad May, he doesn't hit, he only takes hits, he doesn't provide much energy, and has hands of stone.

His only role is that he sticks up for his teammates, since the Canucks don't have another regular who can do that. He's got guts, I'll give him that.

Brad May doesn't hit? You have been hanging around with Waveburner too much..

I think what he ment was that Brad May doesn't hit...the back of the net very often.

Brad May doesn't hit ENOUGH is what I should have said. He does throw the occasional hit, but I think a younger, more energetic version of him would be much more welcomed here, like a Shean Donovan, or an Ethan Moreau type. There are just too many nights where May is invisible out there.

We've all witnessed the nights where this team desperately needs an energy boost, and usually, the 3rd/4th lines are supposed to provide that, and Brad May for one, aslong as most of the 4th line hasn't provided that, like Trent Klatt did.

Personally, I feel that there's a lack of skill on our bottom six. We have Cooke, Linden, Chubarov, Ruutu, May and Kesler down there at the moment. I think a guy like Rucinsky or Arvedson (or Laaksonen who I think would have been a good fit) would have been very useful in a support-forward role.

He rarely hits, usually misses most of the time. Or if he does hit, it's softer than Daniel Sedins.

That's true, but we've tried the skill route in our bottom 6 with Arvedson, and Rucinsky, and they both proved ineffective. Especially Rucinsky in the Playoffs, when Robyn Regehr breathed on him, and he flew off the puck. In the regular season its fine to have soft finesse forwards on your 3rd line, but in the Playoffs you need energy guys who can really dish out punishment on opposing defenseman and wear them down.

The Canucks bottom 6 has been relatively small, I think its time we move on from Rucinsky/Arvedson, and look into a Chris Simon type. I thought Todd Harvey was a hell of a signing by the Oilers.

Simon re-signed with the Flames. Harvey is far too injury prone for my liking. Love him when he's healthy, but he rarely is.

All I know is that Arvedson was a way bigger loss in Ottawa than I thought he'd be. He's just one of those guys who does things quietly but effectively. Great on the PK. We really missed him for that the first season he was gone. Useful player to have on your roster IMO.

Good luck Magnus.

It's sad to see a good guy like Arvedson retire so soon. I wish him well.
