Why is that? Did he get a lifetime contract I'm unaware of and did Lou get replaced by a new GM that drafted a goalie in the first round last year instead of the larger need at defense?

Oh you meant it as a joke.

Completely different scenarios even if Marty is not offered a contract as a starter by Lou, is not offered a contract at all or any other scenario other that will happen. The complexity of everything not known by 95% of the people who slam Favre will remain a treasured point of discussion to those who bother to go farther than the ESPN ticker for their "knowledge" on what really transpired in Green Bay's front office and what was broadcast as "news". The NY Post is a good reference point here.

This is true but I am pretty sure I have heard him say "We will see" in an interview earlier in the year. "I expect to be back" definitely makes me feel a little more confident about him returning next year.

I also read a quote (maybe in the Star-Ledger) in a story about his son (Anthony) that Marty talked about looking forward to being able to watch him play ... soon. Given that Anthony is already 16 ... and watching my own kids' childhood fly by, I could see Marty calling it quits.

He also has said that he would be willing to take a backup role if that's what helps the team most. So it's very possible that he stays on.

I read where he said earlier in the season one of the factors into returning next season would be if the Devils wanted him as a starter or not. I assume that meant he wanted to be their primary Goaltender. That was probably in October. Actuslly it may have been given on opening day. He's given a lot of interviews saying different things since then.

Same interview a lot of guys Kovalchuk included said they would be surprised if this was his last season. Kovalchuk said he looks real young, and moves so well, and would be surprised if this was his last season, and don't think he'll retire. I don't know if he was basing it on if he could play rather than will he want to play. He would kno better than me though. He's with the guy every day.

Brodeur likely to return next season

“I’m having fun,” said Martin Brodeur, expected to be in goal for the Devils tonight when the Jets visit Prudential Center.

“I feel differently about it now than I did last summer, or at the start of the season,” Brodeur said. “It’s not 100 percent, but I’m definitely leaning toward coming back next year.”

I just don't want both of our current goalies back. Bring in some younger goalie like Lindbäck and let him split starts with Marty.

McKenna? Legit? In the AHL maybe. He is in Ottawa now anyway. I think Kinkaid will make a solid NHL goalie but i would prefer that he gets another season in the AHL.

Mckenna bashed the Devils every chance he got the first few months after he left. It was hilarious.

Those damn Devils gave me a lot of money to play a game but made me delete my twitter account.

I saw him play a game once. He did decent in Newark for that caliber of a goalie. Didn't know he was moved. I heard Kinkaid is pretty good. You think they'll test it this or next yr?

For what?
Team rules such as no twitter and Lou choosing players numbers.

Also if Marty does resign I can't see Kinkaid getting much time next year. I would think the Devils would try to acquire a proven young goalie. Someone like Anders Lindback via trade or Harding or Elliott via UFA.

Good. I think Brodeur has at least 1-2 more seasons left in him

I really hope he isn't the starter if he does come back. Needs to be splitting time with a capable partner, and play a mentorship role.

I love Marty for everything he's done for this franchise but Lou needs to bring a youngster like a Schneider/Bernier to split the starts 50/50 with our pending HOF netminder.

We can also go one more year with the Moose/Marty duo but I'd rather have a youngster, with NHL experience, instead of our old school tandem.

P.S. There's no way we go with Marty as our starter and one of our prospects as our backup. If that's the case, we are already looking at a long 2012-13 season.

I honestly think that Schneider will be moved during the summer since they'll need him this year if Luongo dropps the ball again and he'd be my #1 targer but Lindback would be a great "plan B". He's a pending RFA and the Canucks aren't going to give him a new deal if they know he ain't staying around.

Lou should be all over that at the draft IMO. We have a extra pick and I wouldn't mind if we moved a package like Merrill+2nd for Schneider. The Avs landed Varlamov for a 1st and I think Merrill and 2nd is about equal value to a 1st... but I might be wrong.

Don't see why not. Rinne is cemented into the starting job with that contract, and a capable backup is relatively easy and cheap to find on the market. We might have to pay a premium to get Lindback from them, but I don't think they'd withhold him if we offered enough.

after reading some devils article not by Ecklund - hockeybuzz pure discussion) I am beginning to side with the idea of trading Parise for the pieces we will need. Say a goalie and a right wing, this way kovy can move back to left and essentially handle that issue.

Anyone know of any RW -Goalie tandems we could scoop from a team for Parise+

EDIT: Erat/Lindback?

You do not trade your captain in the middle of the season when you are bound for the playoffs. It simply does not happen.
