So I was at Tom Reid's Pub on Saturday night (Same night as the Brad Paisley and Red Bull Crashed Ice Competition) to go to a place that we thought for sure would have the Wild game on. To our surprise it wasn't on a single Television. I guess football takes priority in a so called "hockey pub".
So why the thread. It has been an on going conversation with my friends if Minnesota is really the "State of Hockey". From my experience on Saturday night that is a great debate. However, with that said in regards to specifically hockey the concensous is that Minnesotans support hockey in the following order.
Games on: Pats/Broncos There was even a Pats fan there all dressed up. Odd
One consolation was that the Gopher game was on but still I assumed it was a "Wild" bar
I think if the Wild ever grow into a model NHL franchise like the Wings, I think the population of Minnesota will start to follow them much more closely.
The honeymoon period of the NHL being back in Minnesota is long since over. The last vestiges of it, the sellout streak, ended last year. The fans want to see results at this point, because aside from that magical run to the WCF in '03, what has this franchise accomplished?
Once the Wild get on their feet and become a winning team with a winning tradition, they will start to get much, much more attention on the local sports scene.
Very few fans are loyal enough to follow a loser forever. Hell if the Red Wings ever come back to earth and get mired in a streak where they go 10 years with only sparse playoff appearances and poor regular season finishes, you would see that fan base abandoning ship as well.

It is but Minnesota-North Dakota will win over the Wild playing any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Not the only place which would make that call - the Wild were easily fourth on the bar "must-haves" with the NFL, UFC and the best rivalry in college hockey.
Haven't been there lately but I swear she's real. Dan saw her too.
That's nothing, I swear to God that this host at Applebees in Cloquet is Spurgeon's little brother. Not an inch over 5'4", absolutely identical to Spurgie, had the same sort of camera shyness, and went on and on about my wife's Koivu jersey she was wearing.
