Is nash to the leafs possible

I know that nash to the leafs has come up in the past but with his name coming up again in leaf rumors is columbus at the point where they actually could move him. Now save me the it will cost kessel and phaneuf posts because superstars are hardly ever traded for each other but with a 7.8 cap hit for 6 years that would come into play in a trade. I know nash serves his community well in columbus but at some point something has to give and with nash not ruling out waiving his NMC a few weeks ago how would this have to work to get nash to the leafs.

Start with a first and add a face-of-the-franchise leader, then add something that would make Columbus actually think about it - something like Schenn.

Columbus has no reason to make the trade other than to make Nash happier.

Carter is probably more likely.

Wouldn't move that much for Nash anymore, certainly not Kessel in a deal. Paid like a star and doesn't play like one much too often.

1. Why would we trade star winger for star winger?

2. Why would we have to add to Kessel?

lol @ the leafs getting Rick Nash

I'm a leafs fan and even i think this is ridiculous.

Columbus isnt trading him... and even if they were... why would we even want him?

7.8 million to have him playing on the second line? (splitting up Kessel & Lupul at this point would be asinine) What it would cost the leafs to acquire him (if he were available) would not be worth it in the slightest

You'd be looking at Kulemin, Kadri/Colborne & Schenn + prospects/picks as the total value for Nash. Columbus isnt going to just give him away to us just because the leafs want him.

So we trade away a solid young 2nd line winger, our top prospect and a very solid young defenceman with a tonne of potential and then valuable picks/prospects for a guy in Rick Nash who will slide in to Kulemin's position and probably only provide an extra 10-20 goals per season going forward.

The leafs need a #1C (lol, good luck), a 2nd line power forward (think Ryan Clowe, not Bobby Ryan)
and maybe some depth in goal... if you're hoping for more than that... you're gonna be mighty dissapointed come trade deadline.

That's what happens when you have a big fan base, and a lot of 'nameless' egocentric rumor mongers.

i don't think Nash will be heading to the Leafs anytime soon, more like Carter than Nash. IMO

I really like Nash as a player, but it doesn't make a lot of sense for the Leafs to trade away assets for another winger. If the Leafs are going to trade for a top tier player, I would think that C would be a more pressing need. To add 7.8 million to the cap for the next 6 years is a pretty large commitment for a position that isn't a huge need. I could see the Leafs trying to add another 2nd line winger but Nash seems a little like over-kill.

Would Toronto be willing to give up Bozak, Komisarek, and a 4th?

obviously our biggest need is 1C but if that doesn't pan out, burke has been good for at least one huge trade a year since he got there and this year he will do it again. I'm pretty sure it will be a bit of a bigger name then clowe.

DUHHHH

Remember: Once a player becomes part of TML, he loses ALL possible value.

This. I don't know if Toronto becomes the destination but I think this unfortunate situation will come to an end. Carter has played less than inspired hockey and he does still retain good value as a #1C. His cap hit tells me a bigger market team would make the best fit but the length is scary for anyone. Great player but simply doesn't appear to be interested in working it out in Columbus.

I think he goes before Nash does. I don't mind if he stays but I would hope a major attitude adjustment woudl be in order...

Shouldn't the Leafs wait until they have an actual shot at the cup before they blow their wad on free agents?

Edit: I mis-spoke. I meant to say anyone before they blow their wad on anyone.

The TOI difference between the 1st and 2nd lines is almost non-existent. If for some reason the Leafs acquired Nash, putting him on the 2nd line instead of the 1st wouldn't see him lose any TOI, maybe just a bit of PP time (but I could see them combining Kessel/Nash on the PP only anyways).

Imo IF Nash decides to waive his NTC it will be to go to a contender & play with a legit #1 center. Toronto while making huge strides to relevancy just doesnt fit the bill yet. I could see Washington, Philly, NYR, Vancouver, as teams who'd make a serious bid for Nash, & Nash perhaps waiving for such teams. Can you imagine Rick Nash playing alongside the Sedins??
