Parros to Canucks

@ScottRintoul
Scott Rintoul
RT @sportsnethorn: @DougMaclean just mentioned the #Canucks may be close to acquiring enforcer George Parros from the #Ducks

Not official yet...Thoughts?

Proposing, they have to be willing to take a trash prospect contract, I'd up it to a 6th if they take Rai and Tochkin.

He doesn't really score goals or get points. And our fourth line currently offers that. Unless the plan is to dress him 1 out of every 5-6 games, I just don't really see it as an upgrade in lieu of our more visible weaknesses.

A lot of people are on the fence about this move because Parros doesn't fit our system, but in the grand scheme of things, he's not that big of a downgrade from Weise, if any, and the minutes that are being swapped, 5-7 minutes a game, are negligible. Of bigger importance is that Parros gives us a legitimate heavyweight who can draw the line in the sand, when needed, and all it costs us will be some middle-end prospect or a mid draft pick.

As solely a replacement for Weise, you can't not like this move.

I like Weise.

I think he is a good player with untapped offensive potential. What also must be noted, is he is a rookie. He's learning the ropes as a 4th liner, but has a ~30 goal season in the AHL already.

I'd rather have a guy who can play a regular shift and contribute defensively while making effective plays in all 3 zones.

Not sure why Weise is hated on....Not saying he has Burrows potential, but it seems he may be able to move up the lineup in the future.

I'd like to see more hits from him, and the team as a whole (Why doesn't Hansen finish checks anymore?).

I'm not a big fan of enforcers, but I'd love to get Parros if just for the 'stache

Personally I think it's a pointless move if true.

However, Parros is a hell of community guy (he does the head shave'cut for wigs promotion every year for the Ducks. It's his event.) and would likely fit in the locker room. I just don't see an enforcer as a need.

I can see the move if the cnaucks send back a prospect contract or two (bad prospects of course but they need to clear some contracts).

Parros is past his prime. Apart from that, as others have mentioned in this team you need to be ok with putting up points even on the fourth line nowadays.

If we are getting an enforcer, I'd rather overpay and get Neil.

I guess I'll echo everyone else - Weise is a better player, but I suppose it might not be a bad thing to slot Parros in every now and again. Would put a stop to the nonsense we saw in the Ottawa and Boston games.

I don't watch Parros a ton but he seems like a pretty intelligent player who isn't a liability out there. I'm all for him as an option on the 4th line.

Also: evil moustache and US born.

I'll reiterate tantalum's statement. if true, this is pointless. He can't play. He'll be seeing more time in the pressbox than anywhere else. This had better be for future consideration only. Not even worth a 7th pick IMO.

Id be thrilled to get Parros. Weise isn't much of a fighter and we need a guy like Parros for when we are being pushed around or cheap shotted.

Those doubting this move should re watch the SCF as well as the Jan 7 game against Boston.

If you remember the Ducks' cup win, Parros only played about 5 games...which is fine. He had 2 fights. Shawn thornton sat 2 games of the cup final last year.

You don't need to dress him every night, but on those nights you do need your tough guy, like against certain teams or lineups, at least you have a league heavyweight.

I know he's popular with teammates and fans, he is like the Trevor Linden of Anaheim in terms of the charity work he does there, and he does have a cup ring.

He'd be quite useful against the heavyweight teams. Otherwise, slot in Weise instead.

Problem solved.

Fine by me if they can dump a scrub prospect or two in the deal

The only way Parros could prevent what happened in the Ottawa game was if he was dressed for it. And if I were coach AV, I would have no clue that the game was going to turn messy so I would've scratched him . We play Ottawa once a year and had no prior history with them. Unless AV asked Gillis for a goon and has a plan for him, I just don't see why Gillis would acquire him.

I think this is a very valuable thing, even on a 4th liner.

What will Parros do about it? Other than take us off any PP's.

By the way, all Maclean mentioned was that he heard some talk about it. Just pure speculation IMO.
