Gauthier will trade A.K. if he feels or already know that he will be gone next July as a UFA.

If he can get a good player who is playing on a constant basis with a 20 goal potential, or a top two round pick, why not ?

As long as it is Shea Weber, they can have Andrei Kostitsyn, and P.K. Subban, and others also. They need to make sure that Shea signs a contract extension with Montreal. Kostitsyn will resign with Nashville since his brother is alreay there, and Subban is still a restricted free agent, therefore Nashville will have him for a few years yet. Once this is completed, then get your big center from Tampa Bay....the Stanley Cup playoffs will beckon shortly thereafter. This is not rocket science. Think of the here and now, and the future will take care of itself somehow....thanks to Howard Jones for that quote.

I thought the trade was Plekanec and Subban for Lecavalier...which is an awful, awful trade.

Weber is a UFA in 18 months, that's why you don't trade Subban for him.

Right now markov is worth more to the Habs than having that horrible Lecavalier contract.

If I remember correctly, Bob Gainey was upset with the GM of Tampa Bay at the time, for revealing some details of the proposed trade to the press. He stated that he wanted Andrei Markov, and I'm sure others. Gainey(who was fantastic as a player, but not so much when it comes to management in Montreal) said no because Markov's name was on the list....stupid, stupid, stupid, and that's all there is to it.

So we wait until there's a superstar on a cheap contract with a long term whose team is trying to trade him? There just aren't any.

Generally, outside of drafting high you have to take a risk to get good players. Risks that this franchise hasn't been willing to make. If you aren't going to tank or draft well and you want to be good then you've got to make risky trades occasionally, not just this "my garbage for your garbage" crap that management has been doing the last fifteen years.

I don't see that as a big possibility.

He played hardball with Poile last summer and given where we are in the standings we wouldn't get any kind of discount...we'd have to give him like 50 mil for 6 years to get him extended.

We have two young starts in Subban and Price, I wouldn't trade either.

I'll tell you the same thing I said a few years ago to the people who said that Markov was not to be traded for Lecavalier. They are just players in the end. The team is what needs to succeed and win the Stanley Cup. Who the players are is not important, as long as the team is in the best position to win the Stanley Cup. That is why I never purchase anything with players names, and am not generally a fan of any one player. Sounds like you might be a "fan boy" of Price and Subban. Anyone should be expendable depending on who you are getting in return. Even these two. If Nashville wants to give us a player who is big, strong, and mobile(193 cm, and 105 kg of mobility to be exact) then they can have that "pip-squeak"(in comparison) Subban. As a matter of fact, we should throw him at them, just like we should have thrown that lame, Russian, slob(for Lecavalier) when we had the chance. Lecavalier, and Weber in Montreal's line up at this time, equals guaranteed trips to the playoffs(not just squeaking in either) every year, and that is all that counts.
