Not a fan of Sundin at all. He left a bad taste in my mouth after his departure. I don't think he gave a rat's ass about Toronto. Blah, blah, blah. I don't want to play for anyone but Toronto or win a cup anywhere else. Signs with Vancouver. Blah, blah. I love this city, this is my home. Then he goes back to Sweden whenever he's not playing here. Even Don Cherry agreed with all of this. Fans: well what do you expect with the way they treated him? Of course, $100 Million over the years and when the team asks for some help at the end, he refuses. What a champion. Glad he never won a cup here.

Having said that, how many times are we going to honour him? Didn't we already do it in his first game back? Hopefully this is the last time I'll have to hear of him. All this means is I'll be watching the game a little later than usual because I won't care for his entire life story. We need to look towards the future.

Before you call me a troll or tell me I'm an idiot, just remember: this is my opinion.

I'd never boo him in a ceremony, but I second this opinion. All Mats had to do to go down as the most loved player in Leafs' history was do his final duty as captain and allow us to start to build again (you know, the way Clark did with Mats ...). Instead he said over and over that he didn't want to be a rental player and garbage about how winning the cup is a season long journey and not something you just jump onto the ship halfway through ... cough ... then signs for a $5mil payday for half a season rental in Vancouver. Classy.

Loved him for years and couldn't be more disillusioned and bitter about how he ended things. So far as I'm concerned he can get f**ked.

I agree with you 100%.

If he would have retired after Toronto, I would have no problems with him because then he would have been a man of his word. But he is now a hypocrite.

He was not compelled to help the Leafs by allowing them to trade him for assets, but when he did not retire, he became a liar.

The most he deserves would be a brief splurge on the scoreboard for a couple of minutes, and I believe he already got that this year. We can now move on from him.

Some of you guys are hilarious.

Yupp Sundin was so selfish he didn't "allow" us to rebuild with Chris Higgins, Grabovski and a 2nd!

He's one of the best captains in Leafs history and it will be a great day once his banner hangs next to all the other Leafs greats, and I'll be able to drink the tears of bitter Leafs "fans" who won't get the **** over it.

I'd rather him sign with the Canucks for half a season than see him in a ****ing habs jersey. We already had to see that with Gilmour.

Couldn't have said it any better. Some people are ridiculous. Stop being bitter *****es and get over it already. Mats did so much while he was here but people tend to forget about that because he didn't want to leave the city he was being forced out of.

I have zero problems with the way he left here. He is completely within his right to see his NTC honoured, and I can't blame him at all for trying to win a cup.

EDIT: And yeah, he goes back to sweden...his home and birthplace. He still has a home or apartment here or something and he visits on occasion.

my favourite player of all time, stoked to watch the game (if only on tv )

lets turn this thread positive..what is your favourite Mats Sundin moment? mine is the 1-0 OT winner goal in ottawa in game 1 after the sens had beat us in every game in the regular season...a close 2nd was his game 6 goal against carolina that tied the game at 1 with 30 seconds left (we lost but still a huge goal) and last would be his 500 goal..the most stylish goal as he scored his third goal of the game riffling one by kiprusoff in overtime on saturday night when the leafs were shorthand with 3 skaters on the ice..i still remember kiprusoff bolting off the ice about 1/10 of a second after the puck went in Forever 13 love you Mats

Obviously team trophies, win or lose, should be attributed to one player on the roster. Definitely Sundin's fault.

I believe any fan that hates on a player for not waiving his NTC is blind to the real world. It was the club that was disgraced by that fiasco, not the player

What did he do then? Since you're apparently defending that stance.
