honestly, i'm quite tired at the moment, but can't come up with anyone.
Obviously, there's no comp for Ovechkin, but like a 5+ year deal. Chara has done it, I'm sure Hossa will. Briere looks good. The Finnish dman in Philly (brainfart), St Louis, Briere, Sedins, Iginla. Some players do stay hungry.

Hypothetically, if Ovi comes back next year and is his old unstoppable self, is all forgiven or does his suffer the rep of a coach/contract killer forever?

seems like as a rule any contract over 7 years is a very bad idea. but i don't think anyone thought the ovechkin contract, at the time it was done, was a bad idea. all the evidence suggested he was a generational talent and, if anyone was worthy of it, he was. i didn't disagree, and don't remember anyone else disagreeing either.

it would be hard as hell to stay motivated with all that money in that money in the bank, that's for sure.

its seems like everytime the caps are facing a team that is on the 2nd game of back to backs, the caps are the lazier team, almost acting like they dont need to try hard because of the fact that the opposition played the night before..they came out terrible against carolina as well who was also on a back to back situation.

pgreene, yes a little too harsh. I only mentioned Ozolinsh because he is latvian, and I have seen him play quite a bit. My point is, that we miss a player like that. It is painful to watch really - how is it possible that on a team like Caps, there is no one who can take the puck from their own net to the offensive zone, not even on PP ? is this for real ?

btw, that tricycle race was awesome in the end, only a little slower than our players getting out of the D zone.

sometimes this team is just dreadful to watch. I would just like to see them play a few 60 min games, just a few. Terrible

I know its hypothetical, but I can't see him returning to that form. I'll go on record and say I'm not not opposed to trading him or at least exploring it.

Meh. With Hunter's coaching style, I'm kind of used to it.

At this point, I'd like to see them play hard for 20 minutes. Get the W.

i can't say i have fond memories of ozolinsh, but then again, he played in an era where pure-offensive defensemen weren't all that common and also overlapped when i (and a lot of caps fans) were incredibly frustrated with gonchar, who was very much in the same mold as ozolinsh.

that being said though, you're right. caps can't get the puck out of the zone. carlson can skate it out, as can orlov, but they're not doing it. part of hunter's system, maybe? it would make sense, to keep the d'men from getting too far up the ice and giving up an odd-man rush.

I don't see him scoring 60 again, but I could see him becoming a dominant player again. We've seen flickers of it even this year. I'm not ready to call his first 3 years the aberration in light of 12 poor months. He's still been a top player more than not.

I don’t blame Hunter. I think it just shows how flayed the team is. BB street hockey system made a lot of player look better than they are and it hid a lot of flaws. And as soon as the run and gun stopped working. It’s been all downhill.

I can say the only player that is really worth what we thought he was in Nick. All the other "Young Guns" were part of system that made them seem better than they were. I am not sure where OV fits in that. There is defiantly something wrong.

For a player we used to fight to call the best player in the world. He sure has forgotten how to make a lot of simple hockey plays.

And do you really think the team would be in first if BB was still the coach? For the first time in years we can say a coach is doing more with less. He really had a mess to take over.

No Green
Two Rookie D
55
Young 2C
Nicks Out
He made Semin a player again
OV is a shadow of his former self

I know everyone looks down on anyone that says "Shoot!" on a powerplay, but passing for 45 seconds is better?

When the passing works, its great, but when its not its just a waste of time. I'd much rather someone throw it on a net and crash it for rebounds. Seriously, if quality isn't their at least go for quantity.

Game like this has me waffling again. Back to leaning towards being a seller as they approach the TDL.

It doesn't help that the center position is weak. Not like they have a stellar three zone center presence with strength and speed to get out and through the neutral zone quickly.

Their tempo overall this season, from Boudreau to Hunter, is typically pretty underwhelming.

I'm with you and in no way would consider trading Ovechkin unless he demanded a trade.

Simple hockey plays OV. He has become what the Pitt and Phil fan have always said he was. I just don't get it.

I dunno why people are harping on Ovi. He's getting much craftier with his stick, has really given the impression he's buying into the system with his body work and even going to the body. The biggest problem I see is what it's always been, Ovi goes into the offensive zone and the rest of the team just watches him. He's alone against the defense as everyone just watches expecting him to make the play.

If 5 guys only have to focus on 1 guy, does it really matter how good that 1 guy is?

So this team is essentially Backstrom and that is it.

The sheer number of shots that don't come anywhere near the net is angering
