Makes him not worth $7.5MM. Heatley has negative value to most of the league as well. There's a reason he's the best offer we could have gotten for Havlat.

If we hadn't traded Havlat, our entire top-six would be injured.

I'm just glad Heatley's stayed healthy.

Interestingly enough, I think Heatley moves again this summer, during the window in which he turns in a list of ten teams that he doesn't want to go to...

Why do I think this?

There are cap-floor/cash strapped teams that will look to improve their forwards.

Next season, Heatley's cap hit is 7.5 million.
His actual salary will be 6 million and 5 million the year after.

So take a team like Nashville, Carolina, Anaheim, Phoenix, and even the Panthers... Heatley suddenly becomes an actual hot commodity.

/shrug

Just thinking out loud.

Well if we actually had some forwards who could cycle and let Heater get into position, he'd have a lot more goals.

If we didn't have by far the worst PP in the league, he'd have a lot more goals.

All of this was understood when he got traded here. It's not even necessarily a bad thing either. IMO, he's been one of the few players who plays consistently and keeps up the effort.

Good points.

On the other hand I wonder what kind of season Heatley would have this year if he was back with Jumbo and Marleau? Perhaps the drop-off in his production last year wasn't as impacted by injuries as some thought (or were hoping that was the case).
