I know everyone is going to hate to hear this, but games like these, (CBJ and ANA) are the best to lose.

Columbus and Anaheim gain 4 points on us, heightening our chance at a better pick.

Yeah, I hate watching the Oilers lose to such a woeful team, but I'd rather see our wins come against teams like LA, where it doesn't really effect our draft position.

It's hard to find optimism in a situation like this.

^^i've seen Voyonov play a few times now, including live on Sunday when LA was here...he looked just ok, nothing special...though he might be a good point producer from the back end for years to come.

As for the game yesterday I was impressed with a few players.

Ben Eager sure looks good out there, it's just too bad he isn't doing more of what he was hired to do.

Prv, not sure what else the kid can do other then score. Seems to be generating chances a lot more often than he use to.

Petry, whenever he makes a mistake the last few games I really don't care as he comes back with a good play. Smart play at the end of the game trying to draw a penalty when he came a little to close to Sanford.
I read an article from an LA perspective (LA beat writer) that Voynov is not going to be dealt at all. Kings are very high on him.

I have to agree. They probably look at moving Hickey or this year's first if they are in the market for a rental.

Did you know?

The Oilers are 11-7-3 at home?

And 6-17-1 on the road.

They are also 2-7-1 in the last ten games.

Worst in the league.

Buffalo and Minnesota are both 2-6-2.

Only a joke of an org would depend on the above young players to be leading the way.
Kind of like the 1980/81 Oilers, who had a 19 year old Gretzky, 20 year old Kurri, 20 year old Anderson, 19 year old Messier and 19 year old Coffey leading the way? What a joke of an organization that was...

Troll on Replacement, troll on... You're a riot.

I hate to knock Smid because he's one of the very few bright spots on this team but apparently he thinks, "We should beat teams like that (Columbus)."

Teams like what, Laddi? Teams that are similar to you?

Our current pick is already good. Columbus and some other team (it won't be Anaheim with the way they're coming on) can have Grigorenko and Yakupov.

No, I'd much rather see Tambellini have to deal with selecting a kid outside of the top three. He probably doesn't have a contingency plan for that.

Probably teams that are below them in the standings, especially when they have a 2-0 lead after the 1st period.

At least he didnt pull a Horcoff and say he was happy with losing, because they did good for 20 minutes and can build on that.

Can't blame him for that mentality. You have to believe you're the better team. It's when players aren't saying things like this that I'd start worrying.

The losing culture really sets in when you don't have that confidence.

I'm glad that he's putting on a brave face and wants to believe that Edmonton is better but man, when you're the reigning and defending two time (gunning for three) worst team in the National Hockey League... I dunno, it's just an odd statement.

So if he said. "In reality, we are an awful team and it was a battle of bad teams, and we just happened to be on the wrong end of it"

You would have been ok with that? What was he supposed to say?

What, exactly, don't you like about that? Smid has the right attitude. The Oilers should want to be winning every game, especially by teams that are still below them in the standings.

And what did Captain Potato say? Did he say something about having a young goaltender and needing to be patient with his patented smirk on his mouth?

It was the way he worded it that rubbed me the wrong way. "Teams like that." What? There's a difference between feeling that you have a chance to win every game and talking down an opponent.

You're in the same position as Columbus, Laddie. You're putting the cart before the horse.

You're in the exact same boat as Columbus, Laddie. You're putting the cart before the horse.
I see those comments and I see a young kid in a breakout year getting sick of losing. You can't expect them to start winning until they themselves expect to start winning. It's the exact opposite of cart before the horse.

If he's sick of losing then he should go have a serious conversation with the laughing fool in my avatar and ask him why we're still competing for 30th three years running.

No real argument from me on this one.

I just want to see more of this attitude. Publicly.

Maybe it will start to push out the fatalism that seems to coat the team like a fog.

Yeah right, because our current lineup is prone to be the greatest team ever assembled with some of the best players that ever played the game.

Quick question.

Who is Gretzky, Coffey, Messier, Kurri, in this lineup?

Keeping in mind that club made the playoffs EVERY year and we're challenging contenders in the playoffs from the outset.

In the first two seasons of that club they didn't finish 30th place, they made the playoffs and beat teams like the Habs soundly while scaring the bejeebers out of the Flyers and Islanders. Collectively the best teams in hockey at the time and that club gave them everything they could handle in the playoffs those first two seasons.

This club? not so much.

I don't believe it's the comparison of Gretzky/Messier/Kurri are the issue...RNH/Hall/Eberle are doing there best to mirror that group.

It's managements inability to bring in the supporting cast that was present in the 80's that is the glaring difference. Those teams had the solid veteran presence that allowed the youth to develop/make mistakes that didn't cost games.

"Im doing the best I can with what Ive got, but to be frank, management has decided to go in a direction that is focused on the future, and not the present, so we will continue to work hard as a group, but quite frankly, Kevin, Steve and Daryl concocted this cockamamie plan on a napkin in Denny's and they are determined to follow through with it, laughing at all those foolish enough to throw good money after bad, in hopes of securing a seat in the new arena."

Peace out.
