Lundqvist's Legacy

I pose this question to you all: If Henrik continues on his current pace but never wins a Stanley Cup does he have his number retired by the Rangers? Lets assume his stats remain constant with a gradual decline as he gets older and ultimately retires in his late 30s like most goalies. Annual playoff appearances and a couple of deep runs.

I'd say yes, he's been so memorable it'd be a shame not to.

Most wins for goalie in Rangers history, probably 500+, and HOF.... i think he should.

well eddie giacomin never won a cup with the Rangers and he had his number retired. At this pace if Hank plays like 10 years with the Ranger he will own almost all the Rangers goalie records. I would say that would be rafter worthy.

If he keeps this up, I'd vote him into the HOF.

If he stays past his current contract and shatters every rangers record... (I'd like him to break wins not including shootout wins)

Then yes. Giacomin never won a cup with NYR. Lundqvist will in all likelihood be the best goaltender in the history of an original 6 franchise. That is absolutely worth a number retiring.

If they win the cup anytime soon he will run away with a ring, Conn Smythe and a Vezina all in the same year.

Even without that, if he is a Rangers lifer or most of his career, I don't see how they could not.

#30 will be hanging from the rafters one day without a fraction of a doubt.

Giacomin is the greatest goalie in Rangers history as of now simply because he was considered the best or runner up for so many years. Granted the League wasnt as big, but you cant blame Eddie for the league not having 30 teams back then.

Henrik will surpass him one day. I think this year he gets his first of many post-season All Star selections and Vezinas.

As someone who saw Giacomin play he is still the best the Rangers have ever had even ahead of Richter but if Lundqvist can win a cup he will be the best I have seen and definitely have #30 retired. If he doesn,t win a cup but plays great for another 5 years I would say yes

If he doesn't win a Stanley Cup, but retires a Ranger, then yes his number should probably be retired. Otherwise, it depends on how long his career is after he leaves the Rangers and the way he leaves (voluntarily or via trade).

He's the greatest goalie to ever wear our jersey, Cup or no Cup, and Richter was my favorite player.

He's the best I've ever seen.

1:04 mark is a big part of why, anyone that tried to play goalie surely knows what I'm talking about.

I take him over any goalie ever, I wouldn't stand to see another Ranger wear #30 as long as I live. Up it goes without question!

Even if Hank does not bring us a cup, God forbid, #30 will be going to the rafters with the other greats.

It's not even a question at this point in his career.

If he stays a Ranger for most/all of his career, he'll go down as arguably the greatest player in franchise history, giving Leetch a good run for his money.
