In a couple years.. I think we will have the best team we ever had

As well as easily, the most balanced...

I'm calling it now...

Why you ask?

- We have a ton of talent on all fronts, from the back to the front...
- All of them.. (except Alfy ) are all young - to relatively young... (Where do we place in the league in terms of the youngest? has to be near tops)

Our defensive corps could turn into one of the best in the league (I think Karlsson will be a yearly Norris Candidate almost ever year).

Our forward corps will be the deepest we have ever had..

We will have the best 1-2 punch up the middle we have ever had with Spezza --> Turris..

We have alot of players who haven't gotten a sniff of regular season NHL action, or have gotten very little of it, and these players have loads of talent.. (Silfverberg, Zibanejad, Petersson, Lehner, etc...

We have alot of players who already have championship experience (which I think is a huge reason why we are doing much better this season than many have thought).

Either way, if we get into the playoffs this season we are going to be a very dangerous team, and I could see us beating any team in the East in 7 games (not sure about Boston though).

Extremely exciting time to be a Sens fan, as this team WILL only get better.

I agree but the best team does not always win.

Edit: and I am sharing your excitement

It's essentially why I'm a little weary of going after any big name FAs or trading for an established stars as well. I think we have a good mix of entry level, restricted, free agent, and career twilight contracts on this team right now. I wouldn't want to do anything to throw that out of whack.

Though even while trying to stay objective and contain my excitement about this season's edition of the Sens, there is definitely some truth to the argument that they could quickly rival any of our greatest teams assembled (03, 06, 07 Sens teams).

Unlike any of our previous teams, we're deep down the middle (as opposed to the wing) and have a lot more grit than many of our earlier teams. Also while we've produced amazing blue lines in years past, I don't think we've ever had a defeseman like Karlsson back there (even prime Redden).

There's definitely a lot of cause for optimism lately.

Hmm, I remember a fan asking Muckler is the Sens were the best team he had ever coached since Edmonton, and he smiled and mumbled. Past teams with right wing of Alfie, Hossa and Havlat, top tier D. Biggest hole was goaltending.

This group looks promising but there is a way to go. Those teams would actually be great in todays NHL. Back then they were slowed up with the hooking and grabbing that was standard fare.

There's certainly a good chance you are correct (best SENS team ever in a couple of years); in the meantime the current team is my favourite of all the teams we've had.

This. There is no reason. No reason at all to mortgage our future for the sake of this year's post season. I would give up no more than a third round pick for a LW at this point. Stay the course, Mr. Murray and Mr. Melnyk. Consider this year as an advance payment for the next four years and nothing more.

Instead of having Hossa, Alfie and Havlat on the right side, we'll have that depth down the middle with Zibanejad, Turris, Smth and Spezza. That's going to translate into a very balanced team with a young Redden-Chara-esque tandem on the back end.

Hopefully, Anderson is the real deal and Ottawa should have some good wingers to go with those quality centermen. All that and we now have Melnyk's check book to add some final pieces that we never were able to back in the day.

My only concern is that Gonchar (37) and Kuba (35) logging pretty heavy minutes for us, with Cowen already logging some decent minutes himself. We don't really have anybody else coming up that can log those minutes in 2-3 years. We're gonna have to find a good 3-4 pairing UFA defenseman. Luckily, they aren't that hard to find.
