Nicklas Bergfors (...scores his first career SEL goal)

I´m a bit confused about this guy. His profile at EliteProspects.com says that he is 5´10"/179cm RW then I went to Södertälje website to see his profile and it says that he is 189cm (6´3") tall, and on prospectboard I read that he is a 6´ center. Can anyone help me with this one?

No one knows exactly I think. But he is not 189 cm, thats inaccurate figure.
He is probably 179.

I think it's pretty strange that Södertälje hasn't fixed that on their web page yet. When did this Bergfors size-question come up the first time? It must be quite a while ago..

I´ve seen Nicklas play in the first two games and trust me when I say that he isn´t a centimeter taller that 179 cm...

How much does he play? 10 minutes a game or more?

I saw the second game for the season as well and I agree, he is not taller than 179. I also notice that the profile is wrong on other player as well. I have follow christopher in Leksand and saw the first game Leksand Vs Mora and the profile says 177 cm and 72 kilo but should be 179 cm and 80 kilo. I do beleive EP will update when they have the right info from the teams ??

yup, Leksand U20 roster have now already been updated. Unfortunately not all teams have sent updated player data (ie Frölunda), but in a week or two hopefully all junior data should be up to date.

As for Nicklas Bergfors, he IMO looks almost shorter than 179 quite frankly, but his size don't seem to hinder him one bit.. so...

There were a lot of powerplays in the first two games so he didn´t see much action, I would estimate it to 5-8 minutes per game. His spot on the 4th line was taken yesterday by Umicevic though, Dragan hadn´t played a single shift until the game in Karlstad.

Hmm, how about Videll then? I hope he gets some ice time before the World Junior Championships. He and Söderberg looked great together..

Videll isn't playing at all. He did play with the juniors this weekend, as did Umicevic and Bergfors. But neither Videll nor Umicevic was very impressive (I only watched the Sat. game at AIK). I'd say both Bergfors and Slovenian Anze Kopitar (also born 1987) looked better.

really looking forward to seeing him play, guess I will have to wait for a while though. In mean time, what is your impression of him? Is he strong on his skates, good hockey sense, defensively aware?
thanks

Kopitar

He doesn't look really strong on his skates, but I think he's a little bit faster than he looks. He has amazing game sense and an ability to hold on to the puck that I haven't seen in years at any level (granted, it's easier to do in a junior game and it remains to be seen if he can bring that ability with him to the next level). I'm no scout or hockey expert by any means, but the fact that he played in almost every box play situation indicates that he's got some defensive skill. I'd say he's pretty complete, with the speed of his skating the only question mark.

Videll

That may be true. I'm not saying Videll was bad. Just that I expected him to shine more in a junior game, having seen him look very good in the pre season with the senior team.

In the game today between Södertälje-Djurgården(4-0) Teemu Rihijärvi was sent from the first to the fourth line in the third quarter. Niklas Bergfors took his place between Joakim.Eriksson and Robert Döme and did a good job. It sounds like he might be starting in Södertäljes first line next game and he's only 17, but that doesn't surprise me, he is truly something else.

Aside of his natural talent his fearless play, competivness and work ethics really stand out. If more Swedish youngsters had the same attitude and mental strength Sweden could be a top nation in junior hockey, even with the same fundamental skills as we have now.

Between Eriksson and Döme? I assume you don't mean he played center, but on the wing.

BTW, how much will his size make him drop in the draft?

Anyway, he is bigger than St Louis.

Good question, not a whole lot I'd imagine.
Robert Nilsson is pretty much the same size and he was drafted 15th overall in a very, very strong draft. I'd say that right now Bergfors seems to have a better chance getting into the top 10 as next year's draft is probably not as deep as the 2003 Draft. However, the season is very long and Bergfors' stock could decrease much like Johannes Salmonsson's... he was pretty much considered a top 15 prospect at this stage last year.

Kopitar

Any updates on Anze? I saw at eliteprospects.com that he has 5 points (3g 2a) in 4 games.

It´s not so easy to shine in J 20 nowdays, because the quality in J 20 is very high and I don´t think it´s to big step between SEL and J 20.
Personally, I did like what I saw when Kopitar played !!

So it is true that the standard of J20 Superelit has gone up the last few years?

What I heard is that the standard is higher this season because there are more older players. Still, two more teams wasn't what the league needed.
