The point is that I don't believe that Getzlaf, as an individual, is the concession player / superstar some fans are making him to be. Just take a look at Plekanec's 70 points season when Kovalev was in beast mode in 09-10. Now imagine Plekanec with a guys like Perry and Ryan on his wings, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he would be a PPG player himself.

And I'm not simply dissing on Getzlaf, don't get me wrong. I'd love to have a player of his caliber on my team, but for what his market value is established, there's no way I'd ever go after a guy like that via trades. For what Anaheim would ask to trade him, it would likely take back the Habs a few years rather than improve them substantially immediately. In my opinion, a deal for Getzlaf would most likely be centered around Subban + Plekanec, and then imagine if we have to add 1st rounders, Eller, Beaulieu or whatever... Definitely a no go from my point of view.

Do you honestly think that a rookie fresh out of junior hockey is going to be ready for the role of a #1 center in the NHL? It's worked well for Edmonton so far... no wait, they've got less points than us.

That's my point if we do a wholesale purge for picks and prospects we are going to be battling for the first pick overall for multiple seasons. If you want one good pick boost the club and jump right into contention then you need to keep some good veteran players around.

1st Andrei Markov needs to be re-tooled with six million dollar knee. Theres the main source of our problems forcing the band-aid solutions like Campoli and Kaberle. Find a doctor that can do this.

2nd sell pending UFAs.

3rd Let Diaz/Weber play for the rest of the season. Keep the better, trade the other at the draft

4th Get another Gorges type dman.

Gauthier is not 100% bad, he's just not good enough.

he got us Moore
he got us Wiz
etc.
he just didn't hold on to them. dimwit.

he's not creative enough when needed.

we're still stuck with Gomer and might forever be.
We loved Spacek, but he chose to keep him over HAMRLIK?

We loved Spacek and we love Gill, but he chose to keep them both over WIZ?

he traded Latendresse away, then suddenly realising 2 years later that we are SMALL?!

he trades Halak and Cammalleri, our two biggest traded assets in the last ... 10 years? without EVEN SHOPPING THEM.
however i must admit, im pleased with the returns in both scenario... but YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO AUCTION YOUR BEST ASSETS.
that's how you end up with Kessel-like return!!! (instead of joe thornton-like returns)

Nuge has 35 pts in 38 games...he'll be a 100 point scorer in this league in a couple of years with his skillset...this team won't even have a 60 point scorer this year or even close to 75 anytime in the near future ... yes team pts they don't have a lot but i mean would you have rather have Hallzy Ebs RNH or any 3 of the best canadiens players...the future olympic line for sure...those kids will be legends...will be one of most dominating lines ever if they stay together...those three are already better then any line on this team... it would have been amazing had the canadiens tanked 2008 to 2011 and this line was here...imagine the hype ...

I only picked Getzlaf as an example because his name has come up quite a bit lately. I wouldn't over pay for him and wouldn't look to trade Pleks just for the sake of moving him. If the chance ever came about to get a younger ppg player for, as an example, Pleks+Weber+a prospect and/or mid round pick I'd seriously consider it. I wouldn't trade him just because we can draft a new center this year. I'm not against attempting to retool but I don't want to be a bottom feeder for multiple seasons.

Quite possibly but I'm not sure I want to follow a team that sucks for multiple seasons just to get there. I'd rather go for 1 good pick and keep enough quality guys to jump right back into competing. I'd rather try to do what Philly did than become another Edmonton or Islanders and hope they can get multiple stud players to build around.

You should watch some Edmonton hockey, it is exciting as hell and when their line of RNH, Hall and Eberle is rocking there is almost no one in the NHL that can stop them. Injuries and massive holes in the team have seen to their demise but in a few years if they are together look the F out.

Who was our last 100pt player?

What does liking Gauthiers moves have to do with gaineys mess of a team making the playoffs? I don't think this team will make the playoffs but I do think Gauthier will make some bold moves before the trade deadline and in the offseason.

I'm very afraid of what gauthier might do at the deadline. Not that his trades up til now haven't been good, or at the very least passable, but one can do stupid things when he's about to lose his job.

How is he going to lose his job exactly? Gauthier and Molson both know this is going to be a process and the team is DOA. Do you think they would have traded Cammalleri for that package if they weren't looking at the long haul? The 2nd round pick is the most valuable piece.

Gainey was allowed to **** the bed for years and never got fired, don't expect Gauthier to be sweating bullets anytime soon.

They're exciting to watch but they're also not winning yet. If you're willing to support a Canadiens team finishing last for multiple seasons so they can get some good young players all the while hoping that the ones they currently have don't jump ship in the meantime then that's your prerogative. I'd be worried that some of the young talent that we have now won't want to stick around and hope that the team can be better 4 or 5 years down the road. Getting multiple top draft picks won't help a lot if Price, PK and Patches all leave as UFA's because they don't want to wait to win.

By no means is Gauthier safe, and if we keep losing at this rate, people will call for Gauthier's head and I'm not convinced Molson can withstand the pressure. I'm not saying he's necessarily getting fired, just that there's always that chance with a losing team in a market like ours, and Molson might want to bring his own people in. Don't forget, Gainey was Gillet's man. Molson doesn't look bad firing a guy he never hired in the first place.

All that to say: I think Gauthier is nervous. We'll see what kind of moves he makes at the deadline, I'm hoping we don't see desperate ones.

Guys im gonna put down a couple players names that i believe should be dealt around the trade deadline and estimate the return on the player. Give me your thoughts after and what you think we can get for these guys.

The deffence :

Hall Gill: Im sure many teams want this guy on there backend for the playoff push. Pk specialist and a great leader. -------> late 2nd round pick to early 3rd round pick

Thomas Kaberle : His resume in the past is quite something, but his past 2 years have been anything but pretty. Still i think he could potensially help some teams pp. However that extra year on his contract won't help.
-----> 5th round pick

Yanick Weber : PP specialist, when hes on hes on, and when hes off hes off lol... Still a relativly young and hsnt reached his potensial. ----> 3rd round pick... or get a young player in return that is in the same sort of boat as Weber, and hopefully the change of scenario would work. Perhaps ---->( Jeff Schultz)

Campoli : Haven't seen that much of him, when i have seen him hes been subpar. Not to sure of the return we could get from Campoli, ------> mid to late round pick, or a
7.C type prospect.

This leaves us with Markov-Emelin, Pk-Georges, Diaz- xxx

xxx = St Denis for the time being and an opening for a physical defensive D-man in the off season and I'd be pretty content with that.

I think it's possible too. I really hope that's what happens because I'd rather get 1 good pick this year than to sell out and suck for multiple years even if we would get multiple high picks. I think we could also unload a few pieces (Gill, Campoli, Kost or Moen if they won't sign) for picks and then package picks to move up at the draft.

Kaberle was a calculated risk, it didn't turn the team around but it wasn't that bad a move. We lost nothing for him. Is that all the ammo you have?

I didn't say "multiple years" I said this one year. I don't believe the habs need the level of rebuilding the oilers do. One good draft could essentially give us the single prospect that could fill the position we have no hope of filling in any other way (outside of massive overpayment).

The team is done, before tonight they had a faint shot but after that I am convinced we have zero chance. We are sitting at 7th place and have a very real chance at getting a top 5 maybe top 3 pick. This is a shot at a level of player the habs have not had in years and we should take full advantage of it.

Or we could crawl up to 9th place and draft someone who will fill a 3rd line role in 4 years, whatever floats your boat.
