Who should not be a part of the 2012 season?

Some say Regier, some say Ruff, some say Roy, some say Miller ....

Who do you NOT want to be a part of the team next season? This may not be the perfect little poll, but just go with it in the spirit of it.

I just realized I forgot Miller, oops.
I don't think I can change the poll options. Damn.

I'd like multiple choices, I can only choose 1.
I cannot make just one choice.

I dunno man. My jury is hung.

As much as I hate the way Roy, Stafford, and Gaustad are playing, those guys were great last year...and have a history of being good players for us..

this team went south when we got Ehrhoff, Regehr, Lieno, and Gragani started getting full time.......

To me the problem lies somewhere in that 4, and sadly, Lindy Ruff.

I'd post a link to the team's roster, but I feel that would be cliche. Also I'm on an iPod.

One player? Either Roy or Stafford. Pick one.

Only one?

All of the above (That's an exaggeration, but I don't give a damn).

In this case, I agree - but the poll could have also had an "all of the above" choice that would have covered it. With the exception of Hecht and Kaleta, I wouldn't be at all disappointed to see everyone else on the list somewhere else next season.

Outside of 5-6 players (Pommer, Vanek, Regehr, Sekera, Hecht, maybe Enroth) the whole team is underachieving.

Even so, this team was never a contender with this roster.

It's more about what they bring in as opposed to who they drop.

...

Personally, I think Regier/Ruff made a mess out of the Leino signing.
To be clear, I think Leino can be a good 2nd line winger, but they specifically said they brought him here to center a line.
It was overpayment and too many years for a player that doesn't even play the position they signed him to play.

I love Regier/Ruff. They've been there forever.
But IMO it's time to move on.

(the sad part is that Dineen moved on, would've been the perfect replacement)

There are many names missing from this poll which should be added.

The players you have pointed out have played well considering the circumstances.

Gragnani, Kaleta, Gaustad, Stafford, possibly Hecht and one of Ellis and McCormick.

Miller too should be gone.

I'm willing to give Ruff another chance.

Roy needs to be surrounded by a defensive center and another quality center, ie a #1a/1b center and #3 center, play him where he should be, not what he is counted on now.

Gragnani, Stafford, Gaustad, Boyes, Roy (if the return is adequate), and Hecht

Weber as the #7 only

Up front: Roy, Stafford, Boyes, Hecht, Ellis (career AHL player), Gaustad (unless he takes a pay cut...doubtful), Kaleta (diminishing returnd on physical play vs. reputation based penalties), McCormick (loved his play 2 years ago in the Boston series...where'd that go?!), Adam (back to the minors for more seasoning), and Leino (but they're stuck with him).

On defense: Leopold, Weber, Gragnani.

Definitely want Regier gone. I like Ruff as a coach and part of me would like to see how he'd perform with a different GM over him and with players that aren't lifeless, but the cynic in me points out that Regier didn't change when the handcuffs were "taken off." That scenario didn't work; people don't change. Why do the same with Ruff? But who would fill the enormous shoes of his...

Start off with a new coach, and maybe a new GM if Darcy won't fire Ruff or stick around without him. Once a new coach can implement a new system and evaluate the roster, he can confirm which players need to go. I think several players can definitely play better and be part of a potential Cup contender under new coaching. I still think this roster is about 2-3 players away, but they DEFINITELY need a new coach to make it happen. One of those players can be had for free, via a top 5 pick if they tank bad enough. Galchenyuk will probably be available in the 3-6 range.

I know this won't happen, but if Pegula can replace Ruff and maybe Regier as well before March, that would allow the new coach time to figure out the roster. Then they'd be set up with a solid off-season plan and be ready for next season. Instead, Ruff/Regier will stay and fart around with the same old routine. Wake me up in ten years when they are gone.

I went with Ruff & Regier.

If I were in Pegula's shoes, I probably would have replaced them when I bought the team and hit reboot on the roster.

Now is as good a time as any to do that.

need multiple check-boxes. Here's my off-the-cuff list:

Regier: I'm ok with him staying or leaving. I still think he's pretty good, but am always open to improvement. I was wondering last night if Pierre McGuire would make a good GM. He has encyclopedic knowledge of players at all levels. Just a weird thought.

Ruff: I've been a big supporter of Lindy, but his time has come. No re-tread replacements, though.

UFAs
Boyes: gone (trade at deadline for pick)
Hecht: re-sign for 1-2 years at roughly $2.5/year or less or let him walk
Goose: trade at deadline for pick, but try to re-sign for <= current contract. We simply need centers, size and FO

RFAs
Kaleta: interesting question here. I'm on the fence about what to do with him. I think he still adds value and has been one of our best forecheckers recently (which isn't saying much). Granted, Tropp makes him a bit redundant.
Ennis: re-sign
Brennan: re-sign (could be used as part of trade package)
Grags: trade before deadline for pick

Signed players
Leino: would happily trade him, but that's not going to happen. I'm sure he will improve.
Roy: trade if we can bring in another center. Otherwise need to keep.
Stafford: trade for upgrade in top-6 or as part of package for high 1st
Leopold: like him but he's expendable if we can recoup a good pick or return roster player upgrade
Weber: trade if possible
Miller: I'm ok with trading him, but it won't happen

Ruff needs to go....the guy said that he had no problem with the Leino giveaway play! SERIOUSLY? He doesn't think that a drop pass TO THE WRONG TEAM is a bad move?

Still, the Leino play was clearly what turned the momentum. Ruff claimed afterward he hadn't looked at a replay and said he thought Stafford peeled off on the play and could have been Leino's target.

"It's a bad play, there's no doubt," Ruff said. "It's a terrible play ... but my thought was we had guys in the right position."

Yeah, let's base our decision about whether to can the head coach based on one off-the-cuff comment about one pass during the latest game. I think it's time for Lindy to go, but not based on that remark.
