Intangible Toews heating up

He was off to a slow start but now, 26 goals, second to Stamkos. First in takeaways with 71. Best faceoff % in the league, 9th in points. Cant believe some people still dont think hes a top 5 centre in the league. Id still take him over stamkos anyday of the week.

Red wings fan here and I'd love him on the wings. I'd trade anyone for him besides Datsyuk. What a great team Detroit would be with him if they only lost role players and picks

Why would you take giroux over toews? Toews is atleast proven

Amongst Malkin, Stamkos, Bergeron, Datysuk, Tavares, how is Toesw top 5?

In no specific order, Crosby, Malkin, Datsyuk, Stamkos, and Sedin. Five I would clearly take over him.

Crosby is done. Might as well say you'd take Wayne Gretzky over Toews.

Well he's been impressive (Hossa may be the hawks MVP though) but he's still not a top 5center in the league. Datsyuk, Sedin, Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos are all clearly better. Than you got players who you can argue are better than him that include guys like Kopitar, Backstrom, Zetterberg, etc.

Among centers - 2nd in goals, 5th in points, 1st in face offs, 6th in +/-, plays the PK (I know Hawks PK hasn't been good this year)....ya, not a top 5 center.

Crosby is the only center I would take in the NHL before Toews. Only reason I would forgo Dats is the age differential.

Ya, he is that good. The Yzerman comparisons are looking pretty bang on right about now. I think people are absolutely off their rocker to suggest that he is anything but a top 5 center in the NHL.

He didn't have a slow start... he was leading the league in points for a day or two back at like 35 points and than he slowed down a little and now he's back to point per game.

Toews is probably my favorite player in the NHL. I didn't realize he was so good on draws though (knew he was good, just didn't realize he'd lead the league in FO%).

I'd take Toews over Stamkos, probably, but realistically, only Crosby, Malkin and maybe Stamkos are better options at center. No way do I take Sedin over Toews (both Sedins over Toews + Sharp, ok, but that's a different comparison). No way do I take Datsyuk over Toews (love Datsyuk but they're similar players and Toews is much younger). No way do I take Bergeron or Tavares or Kopitar or Backstrom over Toews. Not even sure what the people who mention them are thinking.

Compare him to other centers in the top 10 in points

Toews - 61.4
Datsyuk - 56
Spezza - 54.5
Kopitar - 53.1
Tavares - 52.8
Backstrom - 51.3
Sedin - 49.5
Stamkos - 46
Malkin - 44.5
Elias 43.2

Its not even close.

Freaking this.

Dude's got tangibles and intangibles.

Not going to sit here and pretend he's the best in the league, but pretty clearly top five in his position, and certainly above Tavares and Bergeron at this point in time.

You're saying that as if Toews wasn't voted the best forward in the Olympics and didn't win the Conn Smythe in the Hawks cup run...

The only center I would take over Toews is a healthy Crosby. Easily over Giroux and Stamkos.

Oh come on. Toews won the Conn Smythe and best forward at the Olympics. That seriously cannot be your argument. Your argument for Tavares is just as specious.
