For all those who "just don't get why Nashville did this," he's an impending RFA waiver pickup for less than $1MM in salary. There's almost no possibility of downside from claiming him. Also, Nashville was at 46/50 contracts (I'm assuming Watson and Aronson's contracts slid) so it's not like they're wasting contract space either.
Trotz said that he's actually a guy that they've kind of coveted for a while, and were surprised he wasn't taken before their claim went through. Thinks he has "another level" that he can get to, given the opportunity.
Worth a shot. Worst comes to worst, he goes back on waivers.
Absolutely no risk with claiming him. I have never been a fan of Yip and I still think he's no more than a career AHLer, but you never know. The Preds' system embraces defense and hard work. It could be the perfect fit for Yip and Trotz could be the perfect coach for him; he could possibly help him adopt some sort of a defensive game.
