Now this is surprising. Bryan McCabe and Nick Boynton are still looking for work. Of all guys, Lebda gets signed. Better late than never I assume, for him of course.
It's got to be a one-year, two-way. You'd imagine the intention is to keep him down in Springfield. He of course has to go on waivers and clear (no doubt he will) first. He can't play down there now until that happens.
So do you think he deserves this contract? His AHL stats do not look bad.
I haven't seen him play in person. Reports are that he's been solid in Springfield. But that is the AHL.
The question is whether the Jackets want their young defensemen in the AHL or NHL. Currently, the Jackets have two rookie defensemen in their lineup - John Moore and David Savard. If there are any more injuries, that likely means recalling another rookie. So, it could be a depth move. Springfield has a very young blueline that's been ravaged by recalls and injuries.
All these posts, and only one person actually mentioned the name "Martinek".
I'd have to imagine that this is a simple case of signing a guy who's been in the AHL all year to a two-way deal in case someone else gets hurt. But yeah, I guess it's easier to start lobbing accusations of tanking. Sure beats actual reading comprehension and logic.
