Now this is surprising. Bryan McCabe and Nick Boynton are still looking for work. Of all guys, Lebda gets signed. Better late than never I assume, for him of course.

It's got to be a one-year, two-way. You'd imagine the intention is to keep him down in Springfield. He of course has to go on waivers and clear (no doubt he will) first. He can't play down there now until that happens.

Horrible signing. Why not give McCabe a cheap contract instead? Not that he's very good but he's miles ahead of Lebda

... -3 in a 9 - 3 win.

Aside from that he isn't as bad as many of my fellow Leaf fans are going to tell you.

... but he's still pretty bad.

I haven't seen him play in person. Reports are that he's been solid in Springfield. But that is the AHL.

The question is whether the Jackets want their young defensemen in the AHL or NHL. Currently, the Jackets have two rookie defensemen in their lineup - John Moore and David Savard. If there are any more injuries, that likely means recalling another rookie. So, it could be a depth move. Springfield has a very young blueline that's been ravaged by recalls and injuries.

All these posts, and only one person actually mentioned the name "Martinek".

I'd have to imagine that this is a simple case of signing a guy who's been in the AHL all year to a two-way deal in case someone else gets hurt. But yeah, I guess it's easier to start lobbing accusations of tanking. Sure beats actual reading comprehension and logic.

Second period intermission on FSOhio saw Jeff Rimer interview him. The highlights of what Lebda said:

-- Good to be back.

-- Hoped to go to AHL and get a chance to return back to NHL. Opportunity presented itself in last week. Good feeling to be back in league. Now needs to prove himself.

-- First game will be on road against team he won Cup with (Detroit). He just wants to get his feet wet. He's looking forward to it.

-- He describes his game as not killing anyone but just play solid D and good positioning. Take care of zone, make the right passes, and maybe chip in offensively.

Nothing groundbreaking.

Uh, you're all getting it wrong. Lebda is a proven winner and has a ring to show for it. This signing shows that Howsen is acquiring veterans in order to make a run for the playoffs.

CBJ saw what Burke traded him for and are hoping they can pull off a trade just as good at the deadline.

No player in the league can match Lebda's ability to utilize his blazing speed to get out of position faster than you'd ever think possible.

Isn't Lebda the only player on the CBJ roster with a Stanley Cup ring?

Decent move, its obviously not to win games. Now you can have a guy in there after the exodus of trades and keep a guy on the AHL affiliate

Well that makes sense. If you're going to Fail for Nail, leave nothing to chance.
