First game, got struck out 18 times by Verlander. 2 hits.
I simply cannot identify pitch type, speed, location when thrown, location, ending location, PERIOD.
I adjusted the sliders to my favor and I still can't hit.
Sad part is, I've owned The Show every year since inception and MVP before that. I've just inexplicably lost my ability to identify pitches and hit them in baseball games period. It's extremely frustrating.
I bought last years game, played maybe 20 hours of it. Got frustrated with hitting. Said I was never gonna buy another one. Then I read about how improved the physics are so I get my 9$ for MLB 11 and take the plunge with 12.
Already regret it.
Do this and report back to me;
1) Go in to your gameplay options.
2) Put hitting on rookie level.
3) Switch hitting type to "timing" (x button)
4) Next access your slider options.
5) Adjust player contact, power, and timing two clicks right.
6) adjust foul frequency 2 clicks left.
7) adjust CPU strike frequency 2 clicks left
8) adjust Pitch speed all the way to the left.
9 save.
You can also mess with the camera angles. Some people have more luck with a wide angle camera.
Another trick is to always guess fastball - this will tell you if it's a fastball or off speed pitch. I dont use guess pitch anymore but it was a huge help in '10.
Another iteration of failed franchise mode. I knew they didn't do much, but I expected them to fix the ridiculous notion that you lose 22 year olds that have one season of MLB experience because they aren't arbitration eligible and are listed as "contract renewable". Why do they not factor in years of service for young players that aren't eligible for arbitration? The contract should slide into the next year automatically as it does in OOTP baseball.
Also, the fact they took out reports from your scout on the player cards is absolutely ridiculous
I've only played a few innings but it seems it's like the '10 version (last one in played) in that when hitting with default sliders there are too many strikeouts in relation to the number of groundouts and pop-ups. It's not that I can't hit, I can hit and score runs just fine, but I just either strikeout or get a hit, and not flyout or groundout often enough. I'm sure that can be fixed by adjusting sliders.
Apart from that the game looks pretty good. I'm having problem adjusting to pulse pitching but I like it better than the old pitching mechanism. And I love the new hitting with the right analog stick. It feels very natural, compared to just hitting the X button at the right time.
So I bought the game today.
Simply put, it's quite amazing.
The "pulse pitching" is a bit of a piss off, but I'd rather learn as opposed to disabling it.
Still can't identify ****, soon though I'll get the hang of it.

Do we have a club/league for HFBoards?
I hated PP at first, but it's much easier to hit spots with it as opposed to the analog. I could never get the analog to go back up precisely on my follow through.
not really liking the view when a ball gets hit into the infield in franchise mode, seems, i dont know. Also, just threw a guy out at first on a ball hit to RF. Little unrealistic

I am the opposite, I was too good with analog but this pulse pitching pisses me off. I have tried for several innings now and I just flat out cant time it to get even one where the circle is small. There always seems to be a delay from when I press to when the circle forms. I don't know if this was because I was playing diamond dynasty which is technically online (but I was playing against a cpu team) or not. If that is the case then I'll give it another shot but I frankly hated it, plus it made me dizzy.

I never could either - but it's been updated this year. It's a lot easier to use the analog and follows your command better.
I still use Pulse Pitching when alone, but my friend has seizure problems (flashing lights, etc), so I had to take it off cause it was
bugging him. I used analog and it worked a lot better than last year.

SECA already knows about this and it should be in their first update.
I STILL play MLB 07 the show when I dust off the PS2. Thankfully the guys I'm moving in with in a month have a PS3 so this will probably be a priority purchase
Anyone know when AAA/AA/A rosters will be released? After spring training?
At Operation Sports they have a collaboration each year workign on and perfecting a full minors roster update. It gets released I believe on opening day and basically serves as the base for any future user created rosters as well. It's so good that I don't download any of SCEAs rosters as they're just flat out inferior to them. This roster can't come soon enough as I have tried downloading a couple user created rosters and they're just flat out awful. Most of them appear to be using one persons roster with changing a couple of things which is fine but the roster they're using has two Wil Myers and two Mike Montgomery's on the Royals and Starling Marte on the Pirates has an F for potential !?! Another person created a roster for some Pirates prospects which being a Pirates fan I thought i'd download and take a look but they ended up making all their prospects A potential which killed any value that update had. I havent looked in the last 2 days but I havent been able to start any franchise or rtts since I just cant do them with crap rosters.
That damn Cubs commercial makes me want this game bad.
I usually wait until opening day, so I can really crave playing it, might get it early.
Wait till opening day.
Operation Sports (google it) will have custom rosters, that have all minor leaguers, etc done. They released it on opening day last year - I heard they are aiming for a few days before this year.
I never start my franchise until I get those rosters.

The contract does slide automatically into the next year, you just need to offer them the ML minimum.

Yeah that was my bad, I got help on OS for that. You have to wait until Feb 28th (last day of off-season) and the option is there for applicable players (for those who may have trouble if you play 'chise)
Still trying to get my pitch recognition down to be able to hit consistently. Only have 1 HR and like 5-7 hits in 3 full games so far. My biggest problem is that by the time I've been able to pick up on whether or not it's a pitch I should swing at, I'm so late that all I do is foul it off or hit a weak slapper to the 2nd baseman or shortstop. And I have turned down the pitch speed slider.
I also keep swinging at low curves and changes.
Pitching seems harder than it was last year, which is kinda nice since I was able to mow people down in RTTS.

A lot of people use the off-set camera for hitting. I forget what it's called (I don't use it) but its almost like viewing from the on deck circle.
Also, if you're using timing, trash it. Timing is so random. Use any other the other three. I use the one which is just the right joystick after using timing forever - its like night and day for hitting. You connect on so much more.
Can't hit to save my life. In July with my RTTS player and i'm hitting like .260 with 2 HR and 30 RBI's. Batting Average has been dropping for a while now substantially. Maybe it's just my ratings but i'm early the majority of the time on my swings but whenever i'm "Perfect" "Good" or others like that my contact is "Just Missed."
