Agreed that I'd much rather have someone like a healthy Crosby over Patrice Bergeron, but simply in terms of FIT with the team, Bergeron would be pretty unreal. He excellent at forcing turnovers, winning puck battles, winning faceoffs, etc., Kessel and Lupul could really use a guy who can get the puck, and Bergeron is amazing at that. Would make up for their defensive deficiencies too, while also being a good playmaker, and while being able to kill penalties for the team.
Shut down centers are nice on the 3rd line, but nothing wrong with having one on the top 2 lines. Detroit have Datsyuk and Zetterberg as their #1 and #2 Cs, Chicago have Toews as their #1, Vancouver have Kesler as their #1, Boston have Bergeron as either their #1 or #2 (arguable), LA have Kopitar as their #1 and Richards as their #2, etc. Lots of top teams have a shutdown C as their #1 or #2.
The guys you are mentioning are just out and out good 2 way hockey players. The way it should be. Not sure I would necessarily call them shutdown guys as I think their games are deeper then that. They play in all three zones and that is what makes them formidable. I would add Getzlaf to the list, along with some others.
But yea I get your point and do not disagree.

But seriously, I was just skimming through the posts and "Toews sucked a dick in the finals" just jumped at me and I was like
Yea I don't know he thinks Getzlaf is a soft one dimensional player and that Toews sucked when the Hawks won the SC and he won the Smythe, not sure if he's some kind of troll or just has an entirely different mind-set then I do when it comes to good hockey.
Vincent Lecavalier? Just a thought. I know there's a lot of negatives. He's on the downside of his career and may not be physical enough for the tandom to work. His allstar contract also makes him slightly less appealing however it may lower the price it takes to obtain him and if we don't resign Liles(I love him so its a sacrifice) and are able to unload Komi on them along with a high ceiling goalie prospect it may be a reasonable idea.
Lecavalier is a proven play off warrior who fills our need for a number one centre and gives us valuable cup experience.
