Just because Smytty is an icon here, that doesn't mean that he should be free of criticism. People rag on Horcoff all the time but Smyth has been as bad if not worse over the last 20 games or so. The biggest problem with the team IMO are the vets giving us nothing in most games and Smyth is a part of that.

I just find it hilarious that some posters in the rumors forum were saying that Smyth could fetch us a 1st rounder at the deadline, i would be shocked beyond belief if he was worth more than a 2nd rounder at this point, not that i would want him traded.

We suck.

We don't have any veterans that can contribute and play at a high level on a night to night basis.

I'd say Hemsky showed just enough that he has a bit to offer for contending teams to trade for.

Is it me, or was Eager benched the entire 2nd period? Why? He was the only forward in the first to show anything.

I don;t think so.

Smyth last 20 games 3-3 6 points -7
Horcoff last 20 games 2-2 4 points -14

I'm not going to pin the loss on him, but how on earth does Green get onto the powerplay (and I'm a guy who doesn't even mind all the PP time Belanger's had this year)? I don't care how many injuries we have, he shouldn't even be on the roster right now. The guy seriously doesn't have one element of his game you could call above "poor".

I'm not even a massive Smyth fan .....

Smyth was never the sort of player who would manufacture a lot of opportunities on his own - he's the kind of player that capitalizes on opportunities created by others . He can't stickhandle and his shot is weak . You can't expect him to score twenty five wraparound goals .

Nobody on this team is creating opportunities for him to finish , even Jones has gone cold .
Add to that the fact that Smyth has been grossly overplayed and is old as dirt . Renney had him out there killing off the five on three tonight

Like I said earlier , people expecting more than they've got from Smyth must be new to watching the game . And I agree , anyone thinking we are getting a first rounder for him at the deadline is certifiable .

Yeah that 2 more points and horcoff with an extra MINUS 7 and yet as usual a guy other than horcoff gets beat to death on here. It's truly bizarre, game in and game out Horcoff is worse than any of the guys that have been killed by the fans in this site. Worse than, hemksy, gagner, smyth you name it and yet people fall all over themsleves to defend horcoff and blast guys who perform better.

It's like some kind of mind control device it just has to be.

The Kings have looked pretty good over their past two games. It's painfully obvious that they treated the game the other day like it was a leisurely practice.

"Khabby had to be outstanding and he was every bit of that. We just couldn't generate much. It's a lesson learned." - Tom Renney

Please tell me this is a misquote. He didn't really use the "lesson learned" line again, did he?

Renney is a complete moron and the overplaying of the vets is just one example of that but i digress.

The biggest problem that i see with Smyth isn't even the lack of offense, it's that he can't even skate at an NHL level anymore and he turns the puck over almost every time he has it in all zones, he looks completely confused out there and he should be better than that, it's hurting the team.

Brule is a good example of why Horcoff is so bad for this team. A guy like Brule (who I believe there is a hockey player there) was never given a chance because of the standing gravy train Horcoff has in this organization. Horcoff in my opinion is not an NHL player but the management and coaching staff keep trying to convince every fan that he is. Costing good young talent like Brule opportunity to find there way in this league. Heck we have players on the team that get the shaft because of the organizations belief in Horcoff. Example would be 4 on 4 and out comes Horcoff and good players who would excel in 4 on 4 like Eberle and RNH and Hall don't get any of that ice time. I would love to have seen Brule get a fair shot, not 4th line minutes but 2nd line as I think he has more tools than even Gagner. But when this org pigeon holes you, you are pigeon holed for good.

hitchcock is known as a defensive guy... yet he out forchecked the oilers so hard it was SO embarrasing.

Difference b/w a stanley cup coach and a farm team coach

Being slightly better than Horcoff is nothing to be proud of. Besides it's not like we can trade Horcoff so Smyth should be an option.

The guy was brought in to be a mentor to the kids. So I guess you can try when the games matter and shut it down when they don't, right?

I've already come to accept Horcoff's suck. Your life would be better if you did too. I expect Smyth to be much, MUCH better than Horcoff. Plus/minus bedamned. He missed a wide open net tonight after Horcoff set him up perfectly! What was he thinking? Explain this to me.

Horcoff played 20 minutes, had a shot on goal and was only -1. This is a good game for him! Everyone's expectations are too high
