The biggest problem that i see with Smyth isn't even the lack of offense, it's that he can't even skate at an NHL level anymore and he turns the puck over almost every time he has it in all zones, he looks completely confused out there and he should be better than that, it's hurting the team.
Fair enough .
I don't see Smyth as hurting the team but I can agree that a once slow player is looking even slower out there .
I still maintain that he's money around the crease (something this team hasn't had in years) and in a few weeks people will be singing his praises again .
This was the kind of game in which it would have been nice to see Hemsky do something .
He's the sort of player who can create a goal all on his own and we desperately needed that tonight .

The game was 1 - 0..........but this was not a one nothing game.
The Blues were all over the Oilers..........out shot the Oiles 2 to 1.
I cannot believe the Blues.........they outshot, out hustled and out played the Oilers.
Only good goaltending kept the Oilers in the game.....is this an example of good coaching?.............the Blues were poised, game, and played their positions very well!
This game convinces me that we need to change management and coaches at the end of the year.

"We never felt overwhelmed.Khabby was dialed in.Lots of shots were from the outside. That was by design. We just couldn't catch up" -Tom Renney
See, the 17-0 shots was by design, that's some good coaching if you ask me.
Being slightly better than Horcoff is nothing to be proud of. Besides it's not like we can trade Horcoff so Smyth should be an option.
The guy was brought in to be a mentor to the kids. So I guess you can try when the games matter and shut it down when they don't, right?
I've already come to accept Horcoff's suck. Your life would be better if you did too. I expect Smyth to be much, MUCH better than Horcoff. Plus/minus bedamned. He missed a wide open net tonight after Horcoff set him up perfectly! What was he thinking? Explain this to me.
And as usual we get the old 'we can't trade horcoff, he makes too much money which is not his fault so 'shrug' what are you going to do? Now back to beating on better players.
He flubbed a good scoring chance? You mean like Horcoff does about twice a game? Smyth has 7 more goals than hold horcatross, 9 more points than old horcatross, -2 to horcules -17, all the while the horcoffian one gets more ice time and more pp time.
Let's stomp all over smyth and only even mention horcoff when brought up by me or the odd other poster.
Horcoff played 20 minutes, had a shot on goal and was only -1. This is a good game for him! Everyone's expectations are too high
you mean he was on the ice for every goal against, sounds about right.
It is no surprise that Green gets PP time when he has no business playing more than 6 minutes a night. This is a team that routinely gives Horcough 20+ minutes a night to showcase how totally useless he is.
I was watching the Heat-Lakers game, tuned in late in the third and ten seconds later the Blues scored on a wraparound. I then went back to the basketball game.
Fair enough .

I think that Smyth and Horcoff need to be split up once RNH and Hall return.
Either that or Renney needs to stick them on the 3rd line with Jones to focus on defensive responsiblities and let all the young players plus Hemsky play in the top 6 and get the prime minutes but i won't hold my breath.
I've said this before about Hemsky....Hall is the only player on this team that he can play with, he sucked when Hall was injured and he sucked tonight and in Columbus with Hall out. Hemsky is the type of player that needs a triggerman on his line and Paajarvi and Gagner are the antithesis of that so i'm not surprised that Hemsky got little going tonight. He'll be better when Hall returns.

Yawn.
Well then obviously all the blame must be put on you and you alone. Shame on you!
Oilers sure have bad luck with the schedule - played Minnesota when they were 1st overall a bunch of times, Washington after they won 6 or 7 in a row, now St Louis when they are in first. No games against Vancouver and SJ when they were pedestrian but now we play they as they are getting hot.
Corey Potter was also pretty dreadful tonight. In fact, he's been going down hill for a while now. Was his start to the season an anomaly, or is he just in a slump? I'm hoping the latter, but the former seems a lot more likely. Good for him to turn a brief glimpse of NHL calibre play into two more years of an NHL salary, but if he doesn't return to his early season form, he could very well earn the bulk of it in the AHL.

Because Horcoff is the ONLY thing you bring up. You never put the blame on any other players. Even when Horcoff made the nice pass to Hall against LA you didn't even give him any credit.
Horcoff is a problem with this team, but he's far from the only one.
Also Smyth and Horcoff had identical PP time today. So they were equally ineffective on the PP for this game. And Horcoff only had 5 more seconds of icetime today than your buddy Ryan.
We get it, you hate Horcoff. That's fine. I understand. But is it really that hard for you to look at the OTHER members of the team? Smyth's lack of offense lately is hurting the team just as much as anyone else's.
Also blame Lowe for the contract. Horcoff would be stupid not to accept that money. But I know you won't anyway.
