Zack Smith

Inadvertent collision with (Brad) Winchester at center ice, out with an upper body injury.

no word on whether he'll return.

edit: out for game.

Really hope it's not serious. He's been awesome in that 3rd line center role and killing penalties.

Open this up to Daugavins as well. Just have a feeling that he will be fine past two weeks.

Looks like a concussion. Very mild though.

This could be a tough blow. Nobody on the farm can really replace his combination of skill, physicality and penalty killing.

That collision looked pretty painful...took a shoulder right to the side of his head.

Surprised he got off the ice on his skates, really.

Ouch. Hopefully he'll be back soon.

It was a weird collision..both players looking the opposite way.
Like they say...keep your head up.

His head definitely snapped back immediately and he looked woozy leaving the ice.

Hope it's mild (a.k.a. like Phillips or milder).

Hoping he is ok. Looked like his head is hit. Hoping if it is a concussion that he can have a speedy return like Michalek did. He has turned into an excellent third line center. Our center depth with Spezza- Turris- Smith really gets me excited. Come back soon Smith

I am of the opinion that it's better to be safe than sorry. It's too similar to what happened to Crosby to risk it.

Keep him out until at least after the All-Star break.

that's good, really thought Daugavins had a broken foot/leg or something the way he limped around after the shot.

From the coaches post game interview he said they'd have to further evaluate Smith, but he seemed ok and he was kept out for precautionary reasons.

For Daugavins he just made a joke and said he's Latvian so he'll probably be fine.

well, i hope i'm wrong, but that collision looked really, really, really bad. like crosby bad. it looked to me to be the exact same kind of play. it was an inadvertent, glancing blow from the side that snapped his head back and spun him around. cherry actually made a really good point after the crosby hit that applies here too- whenever you see a guy spin around and rotate on the ice afterwards. its not good. that sideways rotation on top of the impact of the hit is really bad stuff.

i really hope i'm wrong, but from where i saw that hit it looked a helluva lot like the hit that knocked crosby out for over a year now.

As AP said, better safe than sorry. Give them some time to rest and hopefully they get re-evaluated soon.

Didn't they say during the game yesterday that Smith was held out of the rest of the game for precautionary reasons?

Because DaCosta>Condra for that second line. BM is going to try to fill that whole from within the organization with these skilled guys so he doesn't have to move any assets. He wants to see if DaCosta and Petterson can do it.

My guess is that they are starting to look at what they have on the farm for this yr & future yrs before they decide to make a trade at the deadline. If Boro can fit on this team going forward than maybe they make Kuba available. If not, they reassess to see if they can get what they want through trade, draft, UFA or extend. My guess is that Kuba could be the only guy traded or better said just a one for one kind of trade since they are playing so well. It might not be Kuba it could be a prospect or pick for a roster player.
