I'm curious to see what Hawks fan would ask for Bickell. Now that Hayes and Shaw are doing pretty well, Bickell is playing tiny minutes and I guess that means he might be available. What would it cost?
1st one - Meh ,, Maybe
2nd one - Hawks give up 1st rounder for a 4th liner and a #7 dman
Leddy >>> Weber so no need to bring in a guy like Weber
Moen's not a 4th liner. He's a 3rd liner who can fill in on upper lines in a pinch. His speed and work ethic allow for it. He's on pace for his best offensive season in the league.
Weber has struggled this year, but he's a proven pp performer. Despite the Habs woeful pp, he's scored all his goals on the pp this year - 4. 13 points in 38 games isn't bad. He's a minus 1. I wouldn't trust him to play 20 plus mins a night, but as a third pair guy who shoots from the point on the PP he's decent. He's signed for another year too.
There's similar value between Bickell and Moen straight up, but BB is younger. I don't think the Hawks would take a UFA for him unless they thought it was a clear upgrade. IMO, Moen's value alone is a 2nd round pick (akin to what 3rd liners have got in the past). Gill's value is similar. Slow as molasses, but an extremely good pk player. In the playoffs, with fewer calls, he can usually get around his lack of speed with the odd hold. Weber doesn't have a lot of cache, but he's got skills, speed, and he's cheap. To the right team his value is likely a 3rd-4th (given that Wizniewski was worth a 2nd last year).
From a Montreal point of view, I'd do either trade. I'm not sure Chicago would.
Not interested in trading Bickell for a player of the same value in Montreal. Would rather get a draft pick and hopefully pick up something good. Bicks has serious motivation/confidence issues. When he's playing physical and working hard, he's great... when he's not, the best you can hope for is just being completely invisible.
I'm guessing Bickell will be used for added bait in a rental-type of trade close to the deadline. Although, if CHI were to add a roster player while giving up picks/prospects, he could be had for very little (5th/6th or equivalent prospect) just so they don't lose him on waivers for nothing.
I'd imagine he's a player a lot of lesser teams would be interested in after the season/playoff he had last year, plus the added potential that I think he has.
