Weidman not getting a lot of love here despite being a clear favourite on the sports books.

Weidman is a great prospect and a great wrestler, but in order to beat Maia IMO he's going to have to spend a lot of time on the mat, with Maia having a lot of potential opportunities to submit him. I don't really see Weidman winning this fight on his feet and being in Maia's guard for any length of time isn't exactly a recipe for success, although Maia hasn't utilized his BJJ background with a submission since he beat Sonnen. I'm not surprised Weidman is the favorite, but at the same time, putting money down on Maia seems like a pretty sound choice.

Do any of my fellow Canadian homies know if Sportsnet will be airing the prelims for this? I know they are carrying all prelims for the PPVs but I"m unsure about cards like this....

I just realized that Lavar "Big" Johnson is fighting on this card, I must've missed that announcement. I remember seeing him whoop some ass in the WEC back before Zuffa bought the company. He was a big, scary dude. Not the most rounded fighter and he'll never contend for the title but he's a tough brawler who should do alright against some the HW's in UFC. He's had a tough road to get here with missing 2 1/2 years with a knee injury and then getting shot in the abdomen at a family BBQ missing another year or so. He's lost his last two fights so I'm kinda surprised that he's getting brought in now. Beltran might be able to sub him as Johnson's sub d is brutal but if they brawl it out I expect Lavar to get the KO. Beltran's surprised me before though.

Prelims will be on Sportsnet One at 5PM ET.

Seems like they're trying to get the prelims on Sportsnet One for every single event. It's hard to put 5-6 hours of UFC on the regional Sportsnet channels for 2-3 Saturdays each month so I'm glad they added Sportsnet One.

I remember him signing with the UFC because the headline I read was "UFC grabs Strikeforce's Big Johnson" or something quite funny.

But yeah, that should be a good fight. If Beltran is going for bonuses he'll probably keep it standing and get caught a few times.

I'm pretty pumped to see him debut also, I didn't see him in the WEC but I had a chance to watch him in a few of the SF challengers events and his fights were always great. He'll never be in title contention but he should be in ALOT of slobber knockers.

Thanks man. I think you are right about the prelims being on SportsnetOne, I sort of remember Showdown Joe referring to that point.

Since I rag on other cards when they really suck on paper, I just want to say that I really like this card and its depth. I don't think it will end up being all-that exciting but there is a ton of relevance that will shape the 205 and 185 class for the next year. You've also got guys who were considered great prospects that lost their edge a bit like Dunham and Oliviera. Any HW bout is automatically relevant due to the lack of depth, so this is a big chance for a few guys (especially Russow) to get a big W.

The first fight is probably worth skipping, but after that there's a good amount of fun.

Mitch Gagnon vs Johnny Bedford has been canceled because of an issue with Gagnon's visa, according to UFC. Bedford gets his show money.
Fight won't count towards your picks.

Honestly don't find Chael funny all that much but this was pretty good. The belt was a very nice touch. I thought he was going to run with walking into Anderson's house and making him give it to him.

Agreed. I hate Chael, but found this hysterical. If Chael was less caustic like this more often, I'd enjoy him.
