How the hell did Maldonado time his start to a billionth of a second is what I want to know.....

Trying to decide whether I might as well just go back to sleep. One of the worst starts I have ever seen in my years of watching F1.

Kimi got dropped badly at the restart, I'm surprised at that. Should have been Maldonado in second

Hoping that Vettel / Webber don't finish better than P5. That will minimize the damage to Alonso's drivers championship lead.

Grosjean banned for the next race. Maldonado loses ten grid spots, 5 for jumping the start and 5 for hitting Glock.

Good. It was a ridiculous attempt to.... hell, I don't even know what Grosjean was trying to prove there.

Lucky it didn't end with Alonso's head being taken off.

Fernando Alonso (Twitter) - I can say that it was a good Sunday despite all...

Lotus says there is a "very high" chance that its reserve driver Jerome d'Ambrosio will be drafted in as replacement for Romain Grosjean at the Italian Grand Prix.

Hopefully the team picks Jérôme to drive next week. He really deserves a chance in a fast car.

Haven't been watching this (watched the first two races and got sick of Vettel winning) season, curious what happened to Romain Grosjean?

Missed the race this morning. Gonna have to break down those highlights. What a mess.

They were really trigger-happy that year when it came to suspensions. First Irvine getting one race (raised to three after he complained) for causing a crash in the first race, then Schumacher got two for ignoring the black flag in Silverstone, and Hakkinen ended up sitting out one race after causing a crash at start in Hockenheim. Funny how there wasn't a single suspension since, kind of odd.

The only thing I can think of that came somewhat close to a suspension was in Suzuka 1997, when Villeneuve was first disqualified, before being allowed to race until the final decision had been made, which ended up with him being taken out after the race. So while he was actually racing that weekend, the punishment didn't have anything to do with what happened in the race.

He, and a few other drivers, failed to slow for yellow flags in practice/qualifying.

Haven't watched the race (I am in the process of acquiring it - damn you crappy North American coverage...), but it looks like I was correct in yesterday's prediction of both Maldonaldo doing something stupid and Grosjean doing his normal strategy (i.e. either wiping out in the first lap and taking someone with him or surviving the first lap and driving phenomenally after) though I did it tongue-in-cheek.

Regarding the race ban, I am not surprised given the outcome and the drivers/cars involved. Having said that, I am disappointed at the FIA for their lack of consistency in that Grosjean gets hit with a race ban and Maldonaldo only gets slapped on the wrist with grid drops even though he already egregiously has used his car twice as a weapon (vs Hamilton last year in Spa and this year vs Perez in Monaco) in his two years in F1. Then again, is giving grid drops to Maldonaldo a deterrent at all given that all it does it give him targets to hit.

That was awesome. I wandered around on Saturday and watched the 3rd practice and Qualifying in a couple different places, but for the race I was up in the middle of the "Brussels" corner. Could see the end of that corner through to the beginning of the Double Gauche and in the distance could see the straight up to the Chicane, the Chicane, and a bit of the grid.

First time I've ever seen F1 in person and I knew they were loud and fast, but god DAMN are they ever loud and fast. That crash on turn one looked nuts from what I could see on the screen across the track.

It was a nightmare leaving though. Police closed the main road out (I don't know why)... took me 4 hours to get home, a trip that took 1 on Saturday, 2 and a half of which was spent just sitting in the parking area waiting.

The team made a wrong choice with the rear wing opting with more downforce which hurts them on the straights. Hamilton had the same set up.
