US GP: Webber under investigation for missing a weight check

This could mean that Kimi could rise to 3rd (clean side) in the starting grid.

Imola and the A1 Ring were great tracks for F1. Austria especially, it looked like something out of a video game. And if you want proof of new tracks being worse for a racing spectacle, consider old Hockenheim... (nearly had an accident at that engine noise) and new, ruined Hockenheim. I miss the cars flying through the woods.

Anyway, back to the weekend at hand. Can't see past Sebastian, sadly.

Ed - and as I post this, I see a tweet saying no punishment for Webber.

Yeah, no punishment for Webber which sucks for Kimi who has to start from the dirty side of the track. He even said that 5th would have been better choice than the 4th.

well I guess I'm part of the minority or the only one here who has no problem at all whatsoever with the new direction the FIA has taken with all of these new tracks in "non-European-far-away-lands" lol...but then again I def. get the feeling everyone here is older than me, so it explains a lot...

with that said I think we need to understand that it's a changing world, it's ALWAYS been about money, in the past these countries couldn't compete with Europe, now they can, and thus why we see these new tracks popping out in Bahrain, UAE, China, India...

I'm simply not a purist, and that goes for any sport. I like change and change is inevitable.

The fact is, some of these tracks are good, some not so much, and they aren't written in stone, I'm sure we'll see some rotation in future seasons.

It's not the FIA. It's FOM that's doing that.

I've been watching Formula 1 since Hakkinen's early days and I don't mind seeing new tracks but I still miss some old ones, like Imola which was mentioned earlier.

It has nothing to do with where the tracks are. It has to do with the tracks they got rid of being really damn good, and the ones that replaced those not being as good. Considering they haven't gone back to A1 Ring or Imola since getting rid of them I doubt rotation is on the cards.

A1-Ring is torn up and the new Imola start/finish is way too dangerous.

Was glad when Magny-Cours (Many-Bores) was dropped and would rather see Jerez back and both Barcelona and Valencia dropped.

Meh, I find Imola and A1 Ring to be rather dull and boring. They weren't necessarily bad tracks, but they weren't great either and not particularly good fits for Formula 1 anymore. Sort of like Hungary or Monaco, it's great that they hold races there, but if not for special circumstances you can forget about any actual racing going on.

Same with Hockenheim. Sure, there was something nice about all those long straights, but the races were boring as heck. Might have changed a bit if DRS had been available earlier, but the way things were at that time, that track had to change. The first few races on the new track were a lot more interesting than the last on the old. Now it has changed a bit again, but it's not worse than before either.

That being said, many of the new tracks are severely lacking. Most of the time it seems like Ecclestone just wants some more money and takes anything he can get instead of trying to get the best racing.

Spa, Suzuka, Montreal, those are interesting. They feel like real race tracks, not just some random stuff dumped into the middle of nowhere for no apparent reason.

Imola was amazing, still can't believe how they quit it.
Valencia should be off the calendar to be honest

Massa conveniently takes a gear box penalty to put Alonso 7th and on the clean side of the track.

Best part is they don't change the gearbox: only the seal on it.

Now I'm waiting Red Bull's turn... will they "change" Webber's gear box: Alonso gets dirty side back.

Edit. they will not
