He made questionable trades for sure. Some of them were forced (Healtley, Hossa, Kovalchuk), some of them were not (Zhitnik, Tkachuk). I'm willing to give him a second chance and hope he gained some experience from the debacle in Atlanta.
Any time you can add an ex-GM to your scouting staff, it's a good thing. Not long ago, Waddell was regarded as a very keen eye for talent. Lest we forget he came from the fabled Detroit system.
He does not have the final say on anything. Merely will scout, evaluate, and give opinions. Honestly, why doubt Shero knows what he is doing at this point? Yes, his evaluation of talent as far as trades go were obviously scary bad. But Shero would know his skillset, maybe he is great at picking out young talent to be drafted? Who knows, but Shero certainly deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Pro scouts are the ones that recommend the Poni's and Sully's of the league.

Yeah, was a bad example, but just an example, not the point. The main point is that I think that Shero has earned the benefit of the doubt and obviously saw some skill set where his abilities would be of value. I trust Shero as he has earned it.
I'm not saying he's a good or bad scout - but nobody here can make the comparison based off what the guy did as a GM. The guy's well known throughout hockey and can maybe help out. We will have to see. A good mind in the organization is not bad.

Exactly.
I think people either don't understand what scouts do, or are just trying to pretend that they know better than everyone else, despite evidence to the contrary (AKA Mark Maden Syndrome, a near-fatal condition only curable through the judicious dosage of head trauma).
...wait a minute. I think there's a book about this. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
(Seriously though Mark Madden deserves no one's praise IMO... just another loud-mouthed media hack trying to pass himself off as an insider. A larger, more bitter version of Rossi? Is it OK if I hate the players AND the game they play?)
I don't get it. Why wouldn't you want to hire another person with invaluable insight into the professionals who fill out our roster? Oh cause it's cool to talk about how he sucks.
rabble rabble Milbury rabble rabble Pierre McGuire rabble
Damn we already had one close call with Randy Sexton too.

I don't see how anyone can say something like that.
I mean I understand it's a different job, but exactly what did the Thrashers/Jets get back for Kovalchuk AND Hossa? I'm shocked that nobody's bothered at least a little by this.
