Skilled forward, ufa at season's end, won't cost an arm and a leg . Am I asking for too much?
Personally a guy that would fit the bill for me is Kyle Wellwood. Knowing the spotty history he may not be the most flashy, but that would work well to getting him to a 1 or 2 year contract extension. Has looked great with the Jets thus far with 31 points in 51 games, could fit on our 2nd or 3rd line and has teriffic hands. Doubt there are miles of people lined up to aquire such a journeyman as well yet I might be wrong

I would have to think that the Jets are going to try and extend him. They're thinner than we are in our top-6, and he's been very good for them this year. They can't afford to trade away ANY point-producing forwards if they even think they have a shot at the playoffs this year.

Much talk within Winnepeg that they should start selling. Now would be a great time to capitalize on assets as not too many sellers with many players/ they know this isn't a Cup team going foward so might as well make it one. If I were the Jets I would look at what I could do with Slater, Wellwood, Jones, and Hainsey
If we can get Huselius for 4th + prospect or maybe even 3rd + prospect as opposed to Hemsky for a 1st + prospect, I wouldn't mind going after Huselius.
Not his biggest fan in Columbus, but he is a legit top six forward and his playmaking ability would open up some space for Turris use that shot more.
I really don't see how anyone could think Huselius can do anything for the Senators now or in the future.
First, the Sens are in rebuild mode, therefore would have little interest in older players. Huselius is 33 years old.
Second, Huselius has played 41 games in the past two years, just 2 games of the current season. Huselius' conditioning and game readiness would be a negative for the Senators, a move backward.
Third, the Senators currently have Foligno and Greening on the left side in the top six. Both are on pace to score 18-20 goals, both are young and growing, one is even a rookie. Why would the Sens give up anything to get a player who's career average is 23 goals/season (with 66 of 190 coming in 2 seasons)?
Fourth, the Sens are in rebuild mode, if people feel the need to play GM, then remember Murray has said repeatedly, no older players need apply.
OK, just so everyone doesn't think that I regard Huselius as a future HOFer or anything...
I'm only suggesting Huselius because he'll be dirt cheap (or at least, he should be). I've lost confidence in Butler completely, and if the price for Huselius is Butler straight-up (because maybe Columbus sees something in him that he hasn't shown this year), then make that move.
I mean, Butler will get lost in the shuffle with Zibanejad and Silfverberg coming in next year, anyways. Might as well get a playoff rental for him now than some late useless pick later.
I'm not suggesting we toss serious assets at Columbus for Huselius, but I'd feel a lot better with Huselius on our top line, having missed the entire season notwithstanding, than I ever would seeing Butler up there again.

I doubt Murray wants a guy that has a history of NOT putting in the time or effort to get himself in game condition.
Wellwood IMO isn't close to being what the Sens need now or in the future. His natural position is center, he isn't going to replace Spezza, Turris or Smith, nor do I see him as an upgrade over Condra, Foligno or Greening.
Lastly, why would you even consider a contract extension for a 28 year old average player when players like Zibanejad, Silfverberg, Hoffman and Petersson are in the system????

This is all you need to remember, if a player is dirt cheap they won't help.
This team NEEDS a player that can help them make the playoffs and players of that caliber won't come cheap.
IMO Murray won't be doing anything unless the team responds over the next 5 - 6 games with at least 8 - 9 points. There is absolutely no valid reason to give up young assets or draft picks on hope alone.
i'd be down for trading michalek + for a top line superstar.
i thought it was a good idea before the season started, then thought i was crazy after the season started, now am thinking it would be a good move for the future and present.
I loved Sutton when he was with us. Watching him punish people was awesome. I don't think we'll get him back, but it would be pretty awesome if we did.
nah to Sutton. Sutton - Phillips would be the same adventure as Carkner with one guy playing his off-side. Unless you get him to be the #7.
Wellwood is interesting. Yes is a centre but he has played wing in the past? Or play Smith on line 4 or play Wellwood on line 4 with Butler, it could help BB a lot. As long as he is not too expensive.
