I don't do it. Both Canuck players are good but both benifit from the fact they play on a team as deep as Vancouver. The Edmonton players are experencing the opposite. I don't think Schnieder is enough of an upgrade over Dubnyk to jusify Paajarvi for Rome. Edmonton has to have a longterm plan and i think the Edmonton duo will be the better two in 3-5 years collectively. I think Edmonton would be wise to look elsewhere for a young goalie.

MPS is overrated IMO. I say no.

I would, however, do Schneider and Tanev for Eberle.

Lol yep a blue chip prospect and potential franchise player for an unproven goalie and a whole lot mediocrity.

21 year old PPG players don't get traded in deals like this. People need to realize Hall and Eberle aren't "potential" stars anymore they are stars and young ones to boot.

yeah sure, we'll give you Yakupov/Grig/Murray for mediocre players and a good goalie

I think this deal the OP proposed is fair for the off-season. I know a lot of Oilers are big on Paajaarvi, and his value isn't exactly that high right now. However, you have to give some and get some, and Schneider can be a good starter. The problem is I dont see EDM & VAN being good trading partners.

Personally I've hit the point where I think the Canucks should do everything they can to keep Schneider long term. And from what Gillis has been saying lately I believe he feels the same way. I have seen very few goalies as technically sound as Schneider, and I believe it is only a matter of time he's regarded as one of the leagues best. And down the road if it hits the point that a goalie must be moved, Luongo's contract becomes more and more tradeable and Schneider's value ought to only go up. Unless its a move that brings in a top 2 defenseman, there really isn't anything that gets Schneider out of Vancouver, and we are happy to keep him.

Would Schneider really be that much of an upgrade on Dubnyk? He has good numbers playing on one of the top teams in the league, not sure how he would fair on a crappy Oilers team.

PRV for Schneider might be equivalent value wise, (going from the few outside people that have commented, not Canucks fan boys and Oilers fans chanting PRV for God), but Dubnyk subbing in for Schneider and what he does for our team now would be an absolute train wreck. When Schnedier plays, he steals the show, and our team is usually bushed or apathetic in front of him with very little goal support. If we're planning to use someone to light a fire under Luongo's ass, there are better goalies available.

As for PRV, he would be buried on our depth chart. Insane chemistry developments aside, he would likely land on our third line....not what we want for a return on Schneider. Not a knock on PRV, but we want to win now, not 3-5 years from now. I don't care what scouts project, what fans project or even what he eventually turns into, he's not right for the Canucks now.

Makes no sense for Canucks. Paajarvi has potential, but is clearly more than one season away from realizing any of it. Right now, he'd be a downgrade on every top nine forward on the roster, probably below Lappy and Malhotra as well. So the Canucks deal their best trading chip for a guy who will almost certainly go immediately to the AHL? When they are trying to win a Cup?

I wouldn't touch this in the offseason either. If Schneider is dealt it will be for a player who clearly makes the Canucks better this season and next, not *maybe* three years from now.

Also I am no longer a fan of Paajarvi. The Oilers have botched his developement terribly (what else is new?).

Wouldn't want to lose Rome before the playoffs either, for depth.

No interest whatsoever in Dubnyk.

Thank you. It's something that addresses Edmonton's needs in terms of goaltending and defense, but still probably not something they would do. I agree with a lot of people in that RNH, Hall and Eberle are untouchable; however, if Edmonton ends up with a top 2 pick (Yakupov or Grigorenko) maybe that means one of the big 3 (either Hall or Eberle) could be moved for defensive help?

Could end up working well for both teams, but facing Schneids would be tough.

Tanev could step in and probably play quite well as a number 4 for Edmonton as he was paired all last year with Ballard/Rome/Alberts and has by all accounts stepped his game up this year.

No freaking way.

First off, that's not nearly enough return for Schneider.

2nd... not a chance that Cory gets dealt within the division, barring some obscenely disgusting over-payment.

From Edmonton POV I'd probably do it. Why would Vancouver do it though? I thought VAN needed players who can step in and contribute now. Plus, VAN needs D-men and you are trading Rome away. What is VAN going to do if Salo + another D-man are injured during the playoffs? What about including Connauton instead of Rome?

Not even close. You won't get our 1RP for that.

Exactly, Vancouver should trade Schneider for a lot less, but outside the division.

I think Vancouver needs to add a bit. Schneider isn't so much better than Dubnyk that we should be swapping Pajaarvi for Rome. Either add a pick or something, or put a better player than Rome in there, like Raymond.

I'm truly amazed that fans on here don't watch hockey other than last place Oilers.

I like this trade, is there a better d-man we could get than Rome if we added a pick, maybe?

I'm amazed that fans on here don't watch hockey other than the (divisionally) first place Canucks.

Schneider is good, but looks better playing in front of an awesome team. Better than Dubnyk? Hell yes, but certainly not by the amount you seem to think. Dubnyk's only problem is consistency. But neither has proven that they can start in the NHL.

I don't think the Canucks do this. They're probably going to have to wait for MPS to develop like they waited for Hodgson. On the other hand, they're a very deep team and they could probably afford to wait.
