The cost is far too high. Sure I would love Getzlaf on the Habs but not if it guts the rest of the core. Subban and Pleks are core players and the chance to have a top 5 pick is something too important to give away.
And like many others have mentioned, The Habs are in no postition to give away young core guys and picks, if they rebuild/retool. They need to keep picks and prospects.
Oh and once you have traded for Getz, you have nothing left of much value to trade for Suter. Or if you want to just wait until he is a UFA, he wont come here cause the team will suck worse than they do now.
Too much of an overpayment. Subban, Plekanec and our 2012 2nd would either be enough or we let both teams keep their players. I like Getzlaf a lot, but he is not so far beyond Plekanec that he deserves Subban AND a 1st. Then you toss in a 2nd as well?? Way too much to lose for 1.5 years of Getzlaf in a salary cap world.
Getz is an elite player, making 5.3 mill a year and still only 26. How is that considered a high priced veteran?
He's only signed for 1more year at 5.3, then he's going up over 7mil. Montreal needs to build from within for once instead of always going for trades and free agency for a quick fix.
Subban alone worth Getzlaf and i would say no. Subban presently is immature but when he'll be a man he's gonna be a ****ing beast
As a Habs fan who loves Subban I have to state that Subban alone is categorically NOT worth Getzlaf. Seriously. At least not yet. Let's see in 2 years... At the moment, though, if the Ducks' GM lost his mind and offered us Getzlaf for Subban straight up, I would drive Subban to the airport (crying all the way) and send him to Anaheim.
Getzlaf is certainly the best player in this deal and an elite tough player. But is the difference between him and Plekanec - which is obviously not in the same class of players - Subban, a 1st round pick (11-14 as top-10 would be protected) and a 2nd round pick in a deep draft ? As a Habs fan, I don't think it's worth giving all those assets for this particular upgrade, even though Getzlaf is the kind of players we desperately need.
And I'm particularly not a fan of giving up Subban. We sure have players like Tinordi and Beaulieu that could make him expandable, but not now. Every prospects can bust. If Beaulieu doesn't live up to his potential, we don't have any PP QB until Markov is healed - and even then, I doubt he'll play as good as before...
Guys, we aren't moving Getzlaf unless a good 1C is heading our way. Montreal doesn't line up for Getzlaf.
Put Plekanec with Perry and Ryan and you will not miss Getzlaf as much as you think. Then add Subban to your defence, the Top 10 pick and the top 2nd round pick the fool of an OP offered and I hope you can see why Habs fans who know a little something about hockey are calling this an asinine offer. I am guessing you don't know enough about Plekanec to understand that, though...

Oh, shush, this has nothing to do with value. We would need someone comparable going the other way. Plekanec isn't that. That doesn't mean that Plekanec sucks, it means we don't have the depth at center to justify what we're losing.

I don't think Getzlaf is on the table anyways. Why would you want a #1C in return if you already have an elite one?
