I've never seen EK dive in the games I've seen, where is this coming from?
Ref called Karlsson a diver when MacLean was furious over non-call late in the game.
Like I said earlier, the ref made the right non-call...but usually they make the wrong one on that play. Not sure if they were saying Karlsson has a reputation...or he was just calling EK a diver on that play.
The kid weighs like 175 pounds and flies around the rink. He's gonna hit the ice once and a while.
I don't think that particular play should've been a penalty, and I don't think Karlsson tried to milk it either. He got right back up and made an attempt to get the puck on net.

When does a one handed tap on your pants make your feet come out from under you? That play was a dive, I don't think he is a diver but he does go down easier than most just because of his size.
There's a lot of people that agree that it was, and I think it certainly looks like one. The question at hand is: Was he known diver before this?
He's had one diving penalty before and he picked up an unsportsmanlike penalty after it for arguing. The featherweight of all featherweights in the league and he skates so quickly there's gonna be times when he goes down easy. The force Getzlaf used with that one hand may have been enough to say, roof a puck. You catch him with that in mid-stride I can understand how it could make you fall.
At the time I saw it live, it looked like a play that would almost always get called on Getzlaf, regardless of whether it's the right or wrong call...it looked like a penalty. Upon further review on replay, it looked embellished.
I imagine he gets the benefit of the doubt though considering he popped back up in desperation to make a play. Why? Because he's not a known diver. Though I must say, he must be among the league leaders in puck possession time and half the time he's got it he's a high wire circus act that involves one on one foot race challenges constantly. He's very light and he gets into a lot of instances of "grey area" in terms of "to call" or "not to call" for the ref.
If you aren't diving occasionally, you aren't giving your team the best chance to win.

But for a player to be labelled a "diver" by an official, and for that official to not make calls based on his reputation, that official must think that the player dives extraordinarily. O'Rourke didn't make this decision from your regular, run-of-the-mill embellishments.

What I don't get is if it was a dive according to the ref, then why didn't he call a diving penalty? I mean if after the play he says it's a dive, then call the penalty. It shouldn't be a difference if he tells a player he high sticked someone but never called the penalty on it.

I don't think he "whined".
There had been a soft call on Condra putting us a man down in the last 5 minutes of the game as well. Without replays available, that play looked like a penalty and I don't doubt it impacted Karlsson's fall either.
First look i thought he embellished quite a bit. But watching it again it looks like his right skate gets caught up a little on Getzlaf which causes him to stumble. Defiantly not a penalty though.
