Has Reese Done Enough.....

To be a bottom pairing guy all of next season if his good play continues?

This is partly contingent on no UFA D-man market and no prospects being ready.

Discuss.

Well we can all agree he is better than Mottau. He is quicker on his skates and he adds some surprising grit at points.

If he continues this play, he could make one or two of Eaton, Mottau, or Jurcina when the trade deadline comes.

I would say if he keeps up his consistency thru the end of the season then yes he would be a good 5/6 guy. And I am sure he would come fairly cheap so snowang would love him.

He is an even more horrible player when you watch him live.

I think 1 yr 1 way at 550 K would be a good offer for him to be a 6/7 defenseman.

I think he has shown enough to be worth re-signing and giving a chance at camp to earn a spot.

He isn't good enough that he should be given a spot outright, but he should be in the mix.

Ideally, we would re-sign him and bring in two other dmen and let Reese compete with the rookies for the #6 spot.

Jurcina has been coughing up the puck a lot lately, making weak passes that are easily picked off. Just bad decisions with the puck in his own end.

Even if he's done enough, that doesn't matter.

What will his cap hit be versus what will Mattau's or Eaton's will be?

That will probably be the deciding factor.

I'm fully convinced. He's a good player and he keeps his game simple. He's also a very smart player (hence him going to Harvard).

I'd keep him up for the rest of the season as a 6/7 man. He gains alot even from just practicing with the team.

Keep him up. He's certainly come a long way and has deserved it.

I think he has earned the right to be given a serious look. He is playing smart hockey and IMO is an upgrade over Staois. Give him the rest of the year to evaluate him in the role.

He's surprised me. A hockey player never does enough. There are no certainties. And he should continue to play as if he has no secure position on this team.

If any of us want to watch Islander playoff games next season than Jurcina, Eaton, Mottau and Reese can pack their bags.

That said I have no issue with Reese in Bridgeport as a call up during injuries.

Not even as a 7th man where he doesn't have to play every game? Don't see any harm keeping him here for that.

Look at the sadly first place Rangers. Tell me Reese would make this team as a 7th dman.

Staal, DelZotto, McDonagh, Girardi, Woywitka, Stralman and Eminger.

After the top 7 we have Erixon, Bell and Bickell

Hes done enough to have a spot over Mottau and Eaton and Staios without a doubt this year. But next year? Well see hwo he doe sin camp. But as for me, I want Donovan, and Wishart, and Ness, and De Haan to have equal shots at maing the team. No more coddling. Donovan should eb on theteam right now, he's a #1 in the AHL at the age of what? 22? Awesome stuff.

Rees ewill eb here and contribute the rest of thsi year, but next year I cant see it.

Hell, Id prefer Mark katic, he was actually pretty good last year when he was called up and hes mad yougn as well. Shame he got badly injured, I thought he would have been on the NHL squad this year. HEdeserved it

He has earned a contract his game is simple and he is responsible he is a 6/7 dman for us no harm in keeping him esp if we don't want to rush the youth in boost and it didn't look like well make a big splash free agency he's steady and consistent and no a liability with some offensive upside to his game a 1contract year 1 way wont kill us better than mottau and eaton for sure

Reese has been solid. As you guys say, he is playing simple and he is doing it great. He is much, much better than Eaton and Mottau.

He has earned a new contract, and I hope he will get one.

Reese plays hard and he plays smart. I've liked him since last season and he has proven he is an NHL quality defensemen. He's never going to be a top pairing type player but he is all you could ask for in a 5th or 6th defensemen and still has upside to be 3rd or 4th in time.

Far better than Staois, Motteau and probably Eaton. Smart player. Decent depth guy.

He's probably earned a spot up in a suite. Cheap, seems to be a good kid, and does not have so much NFL experience that sitting him up in a suite would create a problem.
