Columbus Dispatch: "Don't be surprised...if Carter is sent packing"

http://www.bluejacketsxtra.com/conte...h-jackets.html

Don’t be surprised if Carter — ballyhooed as the long-awaited No. 1 center just six months ago — is sent packing to one of the many clubs in the NHL who are looking for a top-six forward.

Carter and Nash have never shown signs of enhancing each other’s games, and although Carter has said all the right things about wanting to make it work in Columbus, his body language on the ice has been something different.

Also included in the article is the news that Scott Howson will likely remain as the GM going into next season, but, oh well, that's a topic for another thread.

As usual, the CBJ org dumps urine and feces on the fans and tells them it's raining. Screw them all.

I know his contract sucks, but I'd like Nashville to take a run at him.

Never saw Carter as a fit with Nash. Not surprised it didn't work out.

How does Howson still have his job right now?

This.

They're both shooters, first and foremost. It's not a surprise that they haven't shown much chemistry.

I'm really not sure why they ever thought Carter would work with Nash. They need a playmaking centre, not a goal scoring one.

Carter really hasn't had enough time to be healthy enough with the core of the team to show what he is capable of. Even if they split the big two up, play one with Johansen, play the other with Umberger/Yakupov/whoever.

Would expect a pretty damn good return otherwise let him suffer if he doesn't like Columbus. Would be foolish to trade him for pennies now.

Still think Carter could be part of the solution in Columbus but its pretty clear he has either asked it or is trying to play his way out. He is a good player and will be a great add for whomever gets him, so long as it is not a destination that disturbs his delicate sensibilities.

Give up Voracek + 8th only to give up on him a few months later

And really Columbus your not gonna fire Howson :

Made no sense at time the whole "C for Nash" given there styles of play dont mesh

Article also states that Columbus will definitely cut ties with goalie Steve Mason, either dealing him for another bad contract in return or even putting him on waivers and that the latter has been considered at several points this season.

Don't see why they thought Carter and Nash would work together. Both guys need the puck on their stick to be effective.

Nash is awful. Just stop trying to find players who may fit with him.

Still think a Ryan-Carter swap benefits both teams. Not a huge fan of the move, but it makes sense.

It would be the end of Howson if he does not recoup most of the price he paid for Carter. It is probably a deal for the summer though not the deadline.

Columbus should've traded for Mike Richards instead of Carter

What if RIGHT after they traded for him the Ducks offered Getzlaf + Perry + Hiller for him? Is it still shake head worthy even though he JUST traded for him?

I don't disagree with what you're trying to get at but make sure you're arguing the correct points.

The dude never wanted to play there in the first place, so that's not entirely surprising.

Trade Voracek and Couturier for him and few months later you dump him... yeah, that's Columbus, biggest joke of the NHL. It's sad but it's true.

Don't forget that the reason the Flyers traded him in the first place is because they got cold feet on the no-trade clause clicking in soon.

Carter will have a say as to where he wants to go, the team acquiring him will know he wants to play for them, so the Jackets should get a good return.

I would imagine a quality defenceman would be the first thing on the Columbus want-list.

A defenseman in the Voracek ilk (early to mid 20s, player that hasn't blossomed yet) and a top 10 pick and Carter is gone IMO
